I am a singer/songwriter from Cape Town South Africa and have been a working musician/singer for 23 years. I am concentrating on writing now and want to get my songs out there and see what people think. I believe songwriting is a very subjective thing and that you can get by without following all the formulas. My current favourite writers are John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Pink, Karen Zoid (SA), Melanie Scholtz (SA). My classic all time favourite songwriters are Carole King/Goffin, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell, Paul Williams, Neil Sedaka, Burt Bacharach.
Lynne Poulsen BIO
Lynne's passion for music started at around 6 years old when she would play piano duets with her Dad on their baby grand. By the time she was 10 she was a guest performer with her Dads cover band, so it wasn't surprising that on leaving school she was already playing professionally in venues around Cape Town. After some overseas travel she was off to UCT to study jazz piano and arrangement under the guidance of Prof Mike Campbell. This led to some great opportunities such as singing for UCT College Big Band, and winning the Adcock Ingram music prize for Jazz Vocals. On leaving UCT, she once again travelled to the UK and ended up performing at the Canterbury Festival with the DAVID REES-WILLIAMS TRIO.
On returning she began gigging around town in venues such as THE GREEN DOLPHIN, THE DOCK ROAD CAFÉ and BERTIES LANDING and writing and performing shows with her brother Adrian. These included COLE PORTER UNDER YOUR SKIN, THE POULSENS DO THE CARPENTERS, and WHAT A FEELING-THE ULTIMATE EIGHTIES SHOW. Soon after this she played keyboards for Mike McCullagh's SIXTY SOMETHING ELSE, SEVENTY SOMETHING and BEATLEMANIA.
Moving to Johannesburg brought the opportunity of working with Richard Loring in GIRLTALK and traveling to Malaysia with that production. After that she once again teamed up with her brother,Adrian, to form the 6 VOICES PROJECT. The founder members were Lynne Poulsen, Adrian Poulsen, Judith Sephuma, Joe Niemand, Susan Webster, and Timothy Moloi. And further additions to the group were, Lesego Motsepe and Thabo Mdluli. The Vocal Sextet did several high profile performances including: THE FELICIA SHOW, BAMBANANI, THE VITA AWARDS, THE WOMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD CEREMONY, THE PRESIDENTIAL AWARDS, and THE WOMANS DAY CELEBRATIONS held at Loftus Versveld Stadium. They also performed for Prince Andrew Duke of York, on his visit to South Africa.
In 2007 she toured the country with Sarah Therons production, DIVA RSA, and was also a part of the NATURAL WOMAN cast at the Barnyard Theatre, Willowbridge.
Her 2 one-woman shows, THE WOMAN IN ME and ALIAS, have been show-cased at Villa Pascal in 2009.
Lynne has been performing live jazz with GRAND ROYALE at Jackson Hall, Grand West Casino, in January 2010, and can also be found at the Green Dolphin with her Trio.
