Bio

Dr. Liang Liang is a composer, pianist and computer programmer. He received Bachelor's Degree from the Central Conservatory of music in China, master degree from Wesleyan University, Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He has studied with Neely Bruce, Anthony Braxton, Alvin Lucier, Russell Pinkston and Bruce Pennycook.

Dr. Liang has composed the original music for Huahua Zhang's The Bell, East Meets West, East Meets West II, Monkey King and the Adventure of the Golden Bells. He also composed the original music for the feature film, The Cassidy Kids, produced by Burnt Orange Productions, Korean director June Lee's film, Johnny goes to Texas, and Chinese comedy director Hu Ge's many films. In 2006, he got the commission by Sony Music International in Shanghai, and composed the candidate song of the theme song for World Expo 2010 Shanghai. In 2000, he composed the original music for Larry Hunt's mask show Playing with Klee. The show premiered in Hong Kong in January 2001. In 1997, he composed the original music for China Central Television (CCTV) for TV program Zhengda Variety Show (Zhengda Zongyi), which had been broadcasted for two years every weekend. In September 1996, Liang Liang was selected to attend the master class in Abbaye de Royaumont, Paris, and studied with the world leading composers Brian Ferneyhough, Klaus Huber and Xu Shuya. In 1996, Liang's piano quartet, Aurora Borealis was selected in the album, Nine Horses - New Music from China and released by Wergo (Wer: 6299-2). In 1995, Liang was invited to attend the MUSICARAMA'95 Hong Kong international New Music Festival with his piece Aurora Borealis, which was performed in Hong Kong City Hall. Dr. Liang won the Excellent Composition Award in the 8th Digimus New Music composition Contest in 2004, and the 2009 Texas Composers Competition.

Dr. Liang's music is a combination of Chinese and Eastern traditional music languages, contemporary composition techniques and modern computer technologies. Dr. Liang's works include five symphonies, five works for large theater projects, a large amount of film music, ensemble music, chorus, electronic music, and dance music. Dr. Liang's music has been performed in China, France, Norway and United States, and heard by hundreds of millions of Audiences around the world.
