Everybody Loves Leah
Few women in the music industry can write their own lyrics, produce their own music and arrange their own songs. Those who can stick out like the color red amid nothing but black. Grammy winners and music icons Alicia Keys and Beyonce Knowles are two young, multi-talented artists who do just that.
So naturally, when another young, female artist who also has these qualifications dances onto the scene, people can't help but compare her to her predecessors. Most underground artists can only aspire to have their name mentioned in the same breath as Keys and Knowles -- let alone measured on the same scale. But with a five-octave vocal range, the Marion, Illinois native and singer/songwriter, Leah, brings something just as naturally beautiful as those before her: raw talent.
Growing up in the Midwest, Leah honed her musical skills in school and local choirs and bands, playing flute and bassoon, and earning awards and recognition for her play and musicianship. She has been singing since she was a tiny tot, making up her first “song” at the age of 3. Nearly 18 years later, she holds the same passion for music, and continues to write and develop her skills. She also enjoys performing live regionally, and Leah has recorded vocals for radio jingles in the St. Louis metro area.
Quickly straying from the looped and sampled beats given to her by producers, Leah decided to build quality music her own way – completely from scratch. Although her music is R&B, listeners can expect to hear a variety of genres in her recordings. Mixing R&B, pop, jazz, and soul, she provides a unique sound that the artist considers "an exciting new effort that steps up to deliver what you want and need in music today."
Leah’s vocals soar beautifully over impassioned harmonies reminiscent of Keys or Knowles on one of their chart-topping hits. While she is capable of bouncing with the best of them, she isn’t afraid to slow it down with soulful ballads, either.
For underground artists, first impressions are very important, and Leah has already made a reputation for herself. Her resume is indeed impressive. The artist writes, co-produces and arranges her own music. Although many other underground artists can boast of that feat as well, few can actually pull it off with the flair that Leah does. She not only does it -- she does it all well.
Ultimately, Leah hopes for the opportunity to continue doing what she loves most while touching people’s lives in a positive way. “I want to be able to help those in need. Making a difference is the greatest reward in life, and I think that’s what I’m here to do.” –Leah
