James Larson bio
Born in Minneapolis, MN, later moved to rural N.E. South Dakota in the area where his great-grandfather, August Jorges, had home-steaded near Blue Dog lake. August built one of the 1st farm grain elevastors in the state, and eventually received a Ford car shipped by rail to Waubay, SD. This Ford had to be partially re-assembled by August to use!
James attended all four years of high school in Waubay, SD, and he enjoyed mixed chorus and was active in the local church. James participated in vocational agriculture and was an FFA member and a delegate to the National FFA convention in Kansas City, KS. James played football at WHS and lettered each of the three years he played. Encouraged by his High School English teacher, James began writing. He also lived part of the time on a farm where he learned riding horse with friends.
James signed up for the Marines, while still in HS, with friends, and toured in various places including Okinowa, Japan, and one tour of duty in Vietnam in the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, and 2nd Battalion 9th Marines in the 3rd Marine Division. He spent hist last of the 3 year hitch back at Marine Corps recruit in San Diego, CA. After receiving and honorable discharge, James attended college at Metropolitan Junior College, Minneapolis, MN. He finished a four year degree in Art & Education at the U. of Montana, Missoula, MT.
James has traveled the USA a few times, and gets writing inspiration through the traveling he has done. James has taken some voice training previously.
He has a registered publishing company with BMI, called Wooly Mammoth, and wishes to start the Wooly Mammoth label.
James was married and has 2 grown children. He also has Mousy, his dog and traveling companion. For food & recreation, James looks forward to gardening and laughing at puppies & chickens!
James has been influenced by God, his mom, the music & choruses from heaven, various dogs and laying hens, kids at play, and a horse he rode as a teenager!
James loves the smell of pine, freshly cut hay, camp fires, horses, and hot morning coffee.
He also loves being under the stars and moon and allowing them to work their 'magic' on him!
