Mike Goroll Bio

Singer/Songwriter, Americana, Roots - signed to Wild Oats Records (Indie)
What happened to the 70's - I wasn't done listening?
Back in the day, I played classical guitar for the love of it, and top 40 to make a few bucks, taught guitar, bass, mandolin and banjo, and did occasional session work. Jammed with David Amram, Arlo Guthrie and Frank Wakefield in upstate N.Y., Billy (Crash) Craddock in Ohio, and, they tell me (it was the 70's) Jeff Beck on a sugar cane plantation somewhere in Barbados. (I still wish I could remember that one)
In 1980, I discovered that, although 10 fingers are handy for a classical guitarist, carpenters don't need that many, and promptly hacked one off at my "real job". I spent the next 25 years whining about it and generally avoiding all things musical so as not to get the urge to put a nail-gun to my temple.
I'm over it now, and although Malaguena is no longer in my repertoire, I do okay with 9 and 1/2 digits, but I feel a little like Rip Van Winkle. What, to me was rock, is now Americana, Roots and Country (albeit with a twang). It's taken me 2 years to figure this out (mostly because the "biz" seems almost as confused as I am), but I can now proudly say I write Americana, Roots and Country, and sound like Joe Cocker meets The Eagles in Garth Brooks' hot tub.
It's the music of my generation and I still love it, so - ROCK ON!, I mean - AMERICANA ON! - I don't know, that just sounds wrong.
