Who is Dujeous? Seven do-or-die New Yorkers? Friends since kindergarten? N.Y.C.'s illest live band since high school? Underground vets whose breathtaking debut, City Limits, earned raves in The Source and Urb? All of the above. But more importantly, Are You Dujeous?
BIO
Dujeous. Pronounced Doo-jee-us. But it's not about their name, it's about who they are: an eight-man band, raised in the forgotten ways and days of old New York; buzzed about hip-hop crew, acclaimed in Urb's Next 100, NY Daily News, The Source's Unsigned Hype, and everywhere else; explosive live performers, respected MCs, musicians, and producers. But really, it's not about who they are, it's about what they've done: pushed 20,000 units of the acclaimed underground classic City Limits, which reached No. 6 on the CMJ charts and got burn on top stations like Hot 97 and KCRW; toured all across America, Europe, and Asia with the likes of Kanye, Busta, Funkadelic, Slick Rick, and countless others; collaborated with Mark Ronson, Nas, Amy Winehouse, Lauren Hill, and DipSet. But forget what they've done. It's all about what they're going to do: release their sophomore album Day In Day Out, leaps and bounds ahead of City Limits musically and lyrically. DIDO is stocked with contributions from the Duj's talented extended circle: platinum soulman John Legend, hip-hop provocateur Immortal Technique, funk queen Sharon Jones, up-and-coming chanteuse Maya Azucena, and others. The octet has expanded beyond their original guitar/keys/trumpet configuration and added cellos, violins, accordion, Japanese koto, and percussion from around the world to their palette. But all throughout, they still manage to keep the drums booming, the bass rattling, and the lyrics even harder than before. Consider yourself warned.
