Danny Melgarejo
On the merits of his own creative abilities, perseverance and in his homespun nature; it's as if he was one of our own.
Danny Melgarejo was raised in Queens, N.Y. At age 16 he was taught by neighborhood friend Brendan McDonald to play guitar. Shortly thereafter, Danny learned to write and record his own songs and overdub and layer sounds through a cheap recorder bought at a toy store. After honing his guitar and recording skills, he joined the band Menagerie at age 17 as its guitarist with drummer Steve Friedman, guitarist John Carney, bassist Marc Calderone and singer John Henley. The band became popular and took off a year later, but due to turmoil in the band, they broke up in 1991.
Moving around and performing with various bands throughout his twenties, the year 2000 brought Danny to Minneapolis, Minn. for a change of scenery.
Danny performed and recorded with several local bands before joining the band Electrus. They performed at local clubs such as The Rock, Mario Keller's, and Star Bar. In 2008 he continued to learn the art of recording by attending Minneapolis's Institute of Production and Recording where he continues to be a student.
Danny continues to write and record for other artists and performs original solo material off of his three albums. He currently resides in Minneapolis, where he continues to be a part of the Twin Cities local music scene, playing solo gigs and working with local bands.
