Biography for David Winter

David studied classical piano at the age of 10. Over the next few years he entered numerous national piano competitions, always placing in the top 10. Through high school David was always a part of the elite choral groups (as well as playing the piano and marimba for the school's orchestra) and even went to an international choral competition and placed third out of 100 high school choirs. He studied music at San Diego State University, but dropped out due to a lack of SDSU's flexibility towards any music other than classical. He then moved to Aspen, CO where he preformed six nights a week with his band, The Trip Toys. During this three year period David wrote and collaborated with other songwriters on over two dozen songs. After the group dis-banded, David went into a very creative period of songwriting and produced some of his best compositions to date. Simultaneously, he continued his education at San Francisco State University, where he wrote his major titled 'Bachelor of Arts: Music Business,' which combined business, music theory, and music recording industry courses to fulfill the upper division requirements of a bachelor's degree. At the same time, he also earned a certificate in the Music/Recording industry from SFSU's College of Extended Learning. During his college curriculum he also gained some entertainment industry experience. He spent one semester as an intern at San Francisco's legendary concert promotor, Bill Graham Presents, and also worked as a College Marketing Rep for Sony Music Distribution. This position with Sony eventually evolved into a full-time position of feild marketing rep, promoting artists for major record labels like Epic and Columbia Records. David left Sony to pursue his passion, songwriting. He is a lead vocalist who plays the keyboards, guitar and bass. He has a plethora of tolls to help him create from the piano he nearly destroyed playing four hours a day for seven years strait to a studio full of equipment including 7 keyboards, 11 guitars, 2 basses, 1 electric drum set, and a full P.A. and monitor system, and most important Protools recording softare and an Apple powerbook to run it! He is always actively performing with a band and is constantly working on his composition in hopes that one day, all the world will hear his songs.
