Interesting intro, high energy. I like the guitar-like effect. I may have added a little more low-mids so it pops a little better on smaller speakers. In fact, the sound selection in this song is very good....At 54 seconds guitar abruptly cuts out, extend the release envelope on the guitar effect and let it fade....Attention getting drip sounds are effective.....Vocal at 1:25 is ok and could be heard one way or the other. Meaning, it could be perceived as a Neil Young type voice with style or simply can't hit the notes. I think the tone of the singer is unique and has the potential to knock it out, but the phrasing and pitch needs work. With that said, the vocals seem to be more of an effect in this song, rather than a lead line, and does create an interesting sound with the pitch shifting effect....Rhythmic problems, such as the one at 2:14 to 2:33. It seems the guitar and the groove are struggling with each other. Throughout, the guitar doesn't seem to grab the groove at all. During a second listen, this became more obvious. I would re-cut the guitar part.....Although there are dynamics peaks and valleys between the two parts to this song, it doesn't really feel like it as the peaks don't swell and grow. They leave at the same place they entered. I would add a strong bridge to this and try to expand the lyrical content as well. Technically I have been critical of this production, but there is still something about it that hits me the right way. I don't walk away thinking it's great, but I do think if some of the above suggestions are considered, it could develop into something memorable. I would keep working on this as I think it can grow into a good piece of music.....Hope this helps, Roy
Hi Roy, Wow!! You pleasantly burned me. All in all, this is the first album I've ever done and I'm happy to note that you liked it and am happy that you provided this constructive criticism. In fact, your criticism is in line with my own. I completely agree that some portions could be redone to optimize the entertainment/dynamics. Thanks so much!!
