I like This music...
nice music, sir!
Thanks Randall, appreciate it.
Hi, thanks for the great review of 'Northumberland', appreciate your time and effort. All my music and video is on johnevanstunes.com , really liking the sound and production values on your music. Thanks again and good luck.
Hi Fred, thanks for the great review of 'Let's Make Music' I had a bunch of samples that I liked individually and tried to hang them together somehow (there's a bit of me in there as well). If you want to see the accompanying video, its on my site johnevanstunes.com thanks again and good luck
Hi Lawrence, thanks for the great review of Le Havre. It comes from a concept album of mine from a couple of years ago called 'Chums'. It follows three best friends as the join the first world war with one of the Chums regiments. The instrument you were curious about is a mandolin that I made about 10 years ago with a deeper body than most to give it some growl. The album, along with all my music and videos can be found at www.johnevanstunes.com Thanks again and good luck for the future
Hello Jeff. Thanks for the review of little sheep! Mrs. Kate
Hi Jeff, haven't talked for a while. Thanks for the good review of 'Just Like Me', you're right, it is a very personal song and very much autobiographical. As such, I never really expect too much in the way of critical acclaim of songs like this , the writing and perhaps more importantly, the finishing of them is more or less enough. I suppose it means that you can go back to making stuff up again! So I'm really pleased that you enjoyed it and thanks again. Good luck and talk soon. Stay safe.
Hi Kate, thanks for the great review of 'The Somme'. You're right about it setting something up, it's from a concept album (Chums) about 3 best friends who join one of the 'Chums' regiments during World War One. As such it was never really meant to be heard as a stand alone piece so I totally understand your comment about the length of the intro. The album, along with all my music is on johnevanstunes.com , I'm really pleased with the way it turned out but perhaps more importantly the journey the research took me on. Thanks again, haven't talked to you for a while. Stay safe and good luck. John
Hi Cyndi, thank you so much for the 5 star rating of 'I can reach you'. It's a style that I've been involved with for a while now but the first time I've put it out there on BJ. I put the vocal together from numerous unconnected royalty free samples (from the same artist) and then wrote, played and recorded the other tracks. It's a different way of working but I enjoy the variety and it gives me fresh ears and renewed enthusiasm when I return to my acoustic roots. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks again.
By the way, I love your music, and what a great address!!. Stay safe.
Sorry, me again. the album 'I can reach you' is from is 'Eyes Closed' and it's on my site johnevanstunes.com ,I'll leave you alone now.
Hello John, Thank you for your kind comment! And, have you ever visited Eureka Springs? Well, I must say, your production on "I can reach you", is seamless, and just a great sound! We all need those "fresh ears", from time to time, and taking a break from a particular style, song, etc., can offer that refreshing, "renewed enthusiasm", of which you wrote. I will check out your site and other cuts on the album. Thanks again! Peace out~ Cyndi
John, Your site it beautiful! I love "Eyes Closed", and will listen to more, by and by. And thanks for the *****s on "Winds" with Peter Schwepker!
John, thanks for the listen and comments for "Short Story". Appreciate your input. I've been listening to some of your tunes and am very impressed with what you do. Keep writing and good luck with the music. Bill
Hi John, thx for nice review of Sweet Summertime. Funny how I have gotten 3 random reviews from you in last couple of weeks, but I sure appreiciate it and am honored. Your recommendations are spot on. In fact, the story right not is that it is kind of a prototype at the moment and i plan to take it down soon, just wanted to get some feedback fot it. I could not play the guitar in proper meter. So my producer put piano music in proper meter and I played to that, however, that made my guitar sound mechanical and not as natural. Then when it was mixed, because the guitar is not that great, the piano and other instruments are more prominent. My feeling, and others too, is that is works best if it is a guitar song, coffee house style, and maybe some other instruments sprinkled lightly in to enhance. I am working on redoing the guitar with proper meter and to sound better and then it should accomplish that. If not, I my hire a better guitarist to handle that. The male vocals are mine, and again you are spot on. I think my vocals are too prominent, and in fact, i am leaning toward bringing in a better male vocalist for the background vocals. Hopefully the female vocals are good. I think some of her lyrics are not that clear. So all in all, will redo the song, but glad to see you like the song itself, just production and arrangement need some work. Thx.
Hi Mate, actually I think your vocal is great, I think it just needs to blend a little more with the female vox. It's a good song and I look forward to hearing what you do with it. Stay safe and good luck. John.
Thank you again!
Love "Empire State " Jay...Really soothing :)
Why thank you Miss Penny!
Hi John, I hope you are well its always good to hear from you on BJ. I'm finding the same - just not many new songs in this category. best regards Laurence
Hi Laurence, it's been a while. I Haven't been very active on BJ, to be honest I got a little disillusioned with the whole thing but covid has meant more time on my hands so here I am again. I've been quite active writing and recording with a couple of new albums on johnevanstunes.com but I was a bit surprised to find that the pool of songs waiting to be reviewed was apparently dry! talk soon, take care mate. John.
Hi John, Great that you've kept writing and recording I'll definitely give them a listen. I've got a best of and brand new set out over the next few months(ITunes Amazon etc). You too take it steady as we come out of covid. Lets keep the music coming from this island ! kindest regards Laurence
I am in love with Greg Johnson's song "The Moon Just Seems To Know" Fabulous!!!!!
Hi, thanks for the great review of 'Too Much Emotion" ,glad you enjoyed it. Plenty more at johnevanstunes.com Good luck.
Calling Out is amazing! You are a truly gifted musician and songwriter!! I wish I could figure out how to put in on my playlist so I can have it handy to listen to often!
Thanks Mate, it's quite an old song as you can probably tell by the recording but I am proud of it. Hopefully it tells the story without being over 'preachy'. Thanks again. johnevanstues.com
It is fantastic, done just right in my opinion. I listened to some of your other stuff and I sure like your songs! Reminds me of Cat Stevens, or even Jethrotull acoustic stuff, which I love.
These Days Are Own, beautiful chord changes, great song!
Thanks Randall. This is a song about two daughters and two weddings in the same year!! I was an exceptionally proud, if a little knackered Dad. All my stuff is at johnevanstunes.com Thanks again.
Hi David, thanks for the great review of 'Ghost Dancing', really appreciate it. This song is part of a concept album 'Eagle' from a few years ago. As such, the lyrics are a bit specific and part of the story, referring to a native American ritual. I agree with you about having a female vocal backing but sadly I don't have that at hand, writing and recording as I do in my home studio. Anyway, thanks again and good luck. John. johnevanstunes.com
No problem John. David
Hi all, I've been trying to review songs from the folk and folk contemporary categories but I'm being told that there are no more to review. Is this correct?, I've been a BJ member for many years and never known this before. It's probably something that I'm doing. Any clues?
You may have run out of songs in your expert level... it has happened to me... I would be happy to send all my folk songs by mail with review panel to go with them... lol! I have never done that ... but I love your reviews... give it a few days, maybe people can’t get to studios...It has been neigh on to a year for me. I have so many songs waiting to be recorded.. I had a chance to record a piece for Ian Ritchie in a small window before the big resurgence after the holidays... First vaccine march 2nd...coming soon... stay safe and maybe I was a little help...in music... 🎶🎶🎶Delta
Just wrote you a dissertation on the subject... looks like I'll try to send it again....Delta
Thanks for that Delta, just got so much time on my hands at the moment (Ha!) and I haven't done any reviews for quite a while now, been writing and recording. couple of new albums on johnevanstunes.com Thanks again, I'll try again in a while. good luck, stay safe.
Thanks so much for the feedback on Magic of Music and Little Bird. On Little Bird there probably are errors rhythmically at :04 and :08. There probably are more but covered up by the other instruments. I am a fairly new musician and struggle with keeping rhythm. My producer insists I play guitar on the songs I write but I would rather get a pro guitarist. Take care
John, Thanks for the review of Delta Dawn... story behind is I am doing a cover cd and my name being Delta... well I guess that pretty much covers it. Glad you liked it.... no plans for it to go any further than my cover cd...side story, my husband wanted to name our first daughter Delta Dawn.... told him, not happening. We named her Roma and conceded to have her middle "Dee" as was my nickname at the time I love my name, song????? but needed to do it. In music Delta🎶🎶🎶
Thanks for the 5 star rating for 'Dust to Dust' Cyndi. The song came about after I saw an old Photo of a couple of young lads sitting by a road from about the time of the depression. Good luck.
Lovely lament about life's trials and tribulations; beautiful inspiration as well, John. All my pleasure!
Thanks for the 5 star rating for 'The Dreaming' Steve, really appreciate it. It's not a complicated song musically but I think that it works well. Good luck.
I remember you vey early when i got on Broadjam. I don't listen to other artists but you were and still are a Favorite. Love your voice and your talents allround. Keep it going
Thanks Steve, at the risk of sounding pretentious, we've got to keep REAL music going. Our songs are from the heart and the head, not a studio engineers box of smoke and mirrors. I haven't been on BJ for a while because I got a bit disillusioned with the whole thing. Not playing and writing, think I'm stuck with that, but the rest of the nonsense that seems to take over. Sorry, I'm ranting now. Good luck mate and I'm sure we will talk again.
John, thanks so much for giving Sonar 5 stars--I appreciate it!
No Problem Dianne, you're a talented musician. Good luck.
Great story Delta, always enjoy your music, good luck for the future.
Hi Dianne, thanks so much for the 5 star rating of Dust to Dust and Balloons, really appreciate it.
Of course! So great to hear new music from you!
Hi all, firstly I'd like to thank Bob Bentley and Alan Gillis for the 5 star ratings of 'Dust to Dust and 'Northumberland on a windy day'. But where do I see the rating on my BJ site?, any ideas? Thanks. John.
You are welcome John. I really liked it. As for the stars, it won't show on your BJ page. All you get is the email notification. Alan
Hi John, Thanks for a kind and detailed review of Time To Think. Glad you enjoyed it. Much appreciated. Bob
Howdy John and thanks your good words and review of No Love Lost--much appreciated! Cheers Warren Hein
Bill thanks for the review of my tune Saxerly. Your comments are spot on! I must re-visit it and amend the melody line and give it a more recognisable dynamic. Thanks again.
Can't thank you enough for the glowing review of 'Ghost Dancing'. Much appreciated, thanks for your time and good luck with your music.
Hello, Frank Josephs. You selected "Bring Tears" and some of my other songs. Just checking on where they are perhaps playing. Dan Curzon
Hi Frank, I'm just going through old messages on Broadjam and came across some from yourself saying that you would send me submission packs for my selected songs. I don't remember if this happened or not. Hope you are well, thanks for your help. John.
Thanks Delta, I've had the same but it just says "your song has been downloaded" not who has downloaded it. It doesn't really matter, just wanted to say thanks. Hope you're ok, John.
Funny!!!! mine had the person name...so I was able to say thankssssssss! Shades of Harry Potter lol! I am great just working on more 🎶🎶🎶... so I hope the same for you... always a friend in music.
Hi all, can anyone tell me if you can find out who has downloaded your songs, so that I can thank them?
John, I had a recent download and it came through my email. Any help?
