I have posted my latest song "I See Her Dancing"! Please check it out! Piano is not great. (A few wayward notes here and there) You could do better I bet. I used my Country singer but I think it cries out for a female version. Would Appreciate your feedback!
Tracy, I have a new song which I have a pianist playing the accompaniment. It is a slow Ballad! He does not quite have the tune quite right! Is classical piano something you could play for a song? I am looking for a male singer.

Hi, Tracy and Jim. About BMI, yes, it's a different breed of cat. The ownership always adds up to 200%. When I registered "You Can Feel It," my ownership of the words and music was 100%, and Robert Quigley's ownership was also 100%, since we have equal ownership of the song. Both of our ownerships add up to 200%. The same goes if the monetary distribution is equal between you and your publisher. You also enter what is called your IPI number. Another confusing area is how it has been released. If I recall, my songs are released but not by an artist. You are not required to upload an mp3 or incluce lyrics, as you would when registering with the Library of Congress. Another oddity: you can type upper and lower case, but their site will show everything you type as upper case. Be careful to review your entries carefully and keep it in progress if you're not quite sure. You can always come back to it. Once you hit submit, it is not reversible. Best to you both! John
Yes you are right on all counts with BMI. It took me a while but I figured it out.
so if I don't have a music publisher, yeah I was doing it yesterday night. and I put myself as the publisher, would that work? lol. but eitherway, now it seems I'm owning 200 percent of my songs right now. Ayy, I registered with BMI out of an impulse, I live in Canada so I should have went with SOCAN instead. What can I do now, I can't pull out before the term of the agreement is done right? UGGH very frustrating this is lol.

I found an answer at this link: https://www.musicindustryhowto.com/ ascap-vs-bmi-the-difference-which-s hould-you-join-and-what-they-are/ It says, "Most Canadians will be signed up with SOCAN as well as one of its American counterparts." That means BMI, ASCAP, and other American PROs. As listing yourself as a publisher, I don't think there would be a problem with that at all. John
Yeah, but with BMI it's that I don't automatically get with SOCAN which is my Canadian counterparts, but I'm guessing since the industry is mostly at US right now then that may be fine? Idk (needs more studies about the industry lol)

Sorry Lindsay, didn't mean to mislead you! I do not sing on my Recordings. Not good enough! I write the Lyrics and the music and have my selected artists sing them for me. I have two versions of Dear Jane! The one with the picture of Chess pieces is the latest! Glad you liked it. Hope you are fighting fit now! I will listen to more of your songs for the five stars you deserve!

Hi Tracy, I had problems putting the right info into BMI at the beginning. Your ownership of lyrics and music has to add up to 200%. Is that the problem?

haha yeah, I seriously don't know what is going on with BMI, I have a hard time registering songs even, knowing that you Jim registered with BMI. Would you be able to let me know what is this problem? O.o thanks a lot! Tracy

Thanks Jeana for letting Tracy know about threads! Hope you are well! She has done well, winning the monthly competition. BMI is not the easiest to register songs on but I managed to have Lyrics and Composing adding up to the 200% for registering to be successful! I have a different version of "Dear Jane" posted here. FYI, I have cut "I see her dancing" to Three, Four lined verses, one line bridge and three choruses. Still to record time for it and adapt the melodies. Adjusting the music has been hard because verses were quite melodic when long. Will send you my latest reduced lyrics for perusal. If any opinion on music , feel free!
Looking forward to hearing your edits on "I See Her Dancing". It has a beautiful melody and the storyline draws you in.

Just listened to your "Rebirth" on YouTube! Great song, with strong vocals on progression. You have an angelic quality and strong vocals when needed. My songs are on all platforms also! Our Genre are different but there to be appreciated! You might like my video on Broadjam; "Drift Away"! It is definitely different! Will listen to more of yours Tracy! Really Top songs and individual sound!

Tracy, Welcome to Broadjam! I was browsing members and thought I would listen to your work! "You Are Your Own Best Friend" is a lovely, accomplished and perfectly personal song, as you have stated. Absolutely Love your Lyrics, melody, hook, instrumentation, vocals and the way your voice becomes stronger as the song and message progresses! Def. 5 Stars from me. I have read that you should, "write what you know"! I would add, "Write what you "feel" as well"! One of my songs is a deeply personal one also. The rest are how I see things or what pops into my head and pulls me in that direction! I look forward to hearing more from you. I received an initial message letting me know I was selected but nothing further with details on what will happen next. I was wondering if you also only received the initial message notifying you and no further messsage or email? In the past when I got selected they quickly let me know more details. Yeah I also was selected to pitch for an A&R for a TV reality show, but I think you will only get notifications with contracts and etc once the A&R actually placed your music in the show, movies and TV. Cheers! Tracy
