Hi, John and Geri. Thank you for the wonderful review of "Nature of the Game" where you highlighted the melody and lyrics. I've been listening to all 18 of your songs and going through again. While I do that, I love the beautiful arrangements of your vocals and instrumentation! You do very well with lilting melodies. Your carefully placed arrangements with lovely vocals set you apart from the trend for tough, callous, superficial story lines. Your productions might sometimes be characterized as retro but so are mine, and some people see that as a criticism. To be specific, it means we are influenced by songwriters who knew their craft and were masters at it, instead of song factories made of of marketers who produce for one thing alone: profits. Profits over timeless heartfelt artistry that's about real life. Your songs are as if Lobo (Kent LaVoie) got together with the Carter Sisters with the harmonic finesse of Crosby, Stills, and Nash. They are pleasurable and a delight to listen to. Such songs are as pertinent today as they ever were no matter what the music industry machine thinks. I've done more collaboration this year than ever before. My songs are like a travelogue of my life. I write mostly pop songs. "Nature of the Game" was my first venture into Country. I awoke with a melody last April and knew it was very catchy, rushed to my guitar and computer to compose it and write a few lines within an hour, and rushed it off to Bob Bentley and Robert Quigley, both in the UK. They were really excited. As Bob worked on lyrics, I composed the rest of the melody. Bob played and arranged the guitars and keyboards. It was the most enjoyable collaboration I've experienced. I'm definitely a melody person. My words (I don't consider myself a lyricist) don't always have happy endings and my stories sometimes leave you up in the air, but then that's been life. I consider my most beautiful song to be "Raindrop Soul." I was 49 when I got married after a year long telephone romance which became the Carpenters/America influenced "Stay Here Now." I'll get back to listening to your songs some more. I see you've been on the traveling circuit and in the business so you're review meant more to me than most reviews I see. Thank you for listening! Hi, John and Geri. I'm catching up with what's been going on at BJ. You have very pleasing personable style of mixed vocals that fit comfortably into the listener's living room while you tell your stories. You dropped by a few weeks ago and enjoyed "Just Another Weekend," which I humbly thank you for. I've never been to Michigan's upper peninsula which I would imagine is a lovely place. Going across Canada is as close as I got. I like your lilting arrangements, too. Today's pop music doesn't have much of that anymore. Thanks much for dropping by! John
Thank you John. Back in the 80's, we sent some songs we wrote to Scott Turner, Buried Treasure Music (ASCAP), Captain Kidd Music (BMI). He composed songs with Buddy Holly, Audie Murphy and many more. He liked our "vocal styling". Unfortunately, he passed away in 2009. He was an awesome mentor to us even though nothing "big" happened on our end. We just keep plugging away. The UP is a lovely place, but not much fun in Winter!!
