Hi Drew - and thank you for your kind comment(s). I liked your tunes, man. As I believe I said, you can tell you care and that you have a passion for it; you're not a pretender. Keep plugin away, my man; I like your voice.

Cheers,

Brian

Dude your words mean a lot. I wish I had more time to fix the things you suggested but I appreciate it and after listening to your songs (which I absolutely love) I really take your words to heart.

Hey Drew - I listened to your tune - Won't Turn Around...what a catchy riff, man; truly. It reminds me of something...like something I've heard before, but I can't place the tune...and I have a big music library in my head...and when it sounds familiar, but you can't place it...is when you know you got it right. I don't know you have all the changes right, it loses a little steam, but the body of it is great; very hummable. And your vocal on it is very nice; you can tell you care, man. If you ever go into a studio and do some of your tunes up in a decent room, with decent gear, this is one you should record; for sure. If I was producing you, I'd be all over this tune. And a good mic would really bring to light the color and passion in your vocal. Good job, man. Pat on the back to you!

Dear Drew - I listened to your song Let The Rain Fall and I just wanted to pass along a few thoughts.

It is a very nice song. It has a very sweet sentiment to it and I think your voice it's solid on it, for the most part. It's maybe a little unsure or shakey, but that's also a quality in and of itself. Well, if it's coupled with vulnerability and I can feel that, here. The vocal is in no way pitchy or anything, not at all.

I read D'Simone's comments and agree with most of them; maybe all of them. There are some things in here lyrically that I would address; sometimes it's (lyrically) too heavy; as if you're giving yourself too much to get out at once. When writing, always find the cadance of the song and write to that; it's hard to go wrong. Find the song's pocket and fit in. Fill only the void that needs to be filled.

And D is right about the rhymes. Sometimes, they work, sometimes they are uncalled for, cliched, tired or within "the box"; rhymes in general, that is. On this issue and I don't know if you've ever used one, but don't be afraid to get out the rhyming dictionary, thesaurus...any tool you can use or need as a writer.

Last thing - your vocal is too far forward in the mix; it needs to be backed off. You vocal should be sitting just ahead of everything else.

Good effort though, Sir. The song has the most important quality, it's honest and you can tell you have heart. You can't teach heart. You can only improve skill.

Cheers,

Brian

Hi Drew, I went back and listed to the song again a few times, I also listened to Let the Rain Fall and Remains the Same. Both are great songs. Remains the Same is exceptional. I wasn't feeling Free, for a few reasons. Critics are like you know what :) So take it for what it's worth. There are a few too many rhymes in the song that I would go back and replace. Based on the other songs I heard from you I know you have better in you. I like the premise of the song, but the production is distracting. It drags a bit and the drums with no bass sound does not help the song. The drum feel takes away from the song, I would try something with a little more shuffle, not quite 50 ways to leave your lover but more in that direction.

Again after listening to just a couple of your other songs, it sounds like you sang this song write when you wrote it or without really getting comfortable with how you wanted to phrase things so it's missing the emotion your other vocals have.

I'm sorry for the short review. I hope this is constructive. I think you are talented.

Yes. When's it coming out? I rediscovered your music today. Give me a shout, if you hit the great lakes area with a tour.

Hey man, I just listened to Radio, I love it. Would love to download it and be able to listen in my car. Also, just a recommendation I wouldn't pan your vocals into the right speaker, keep em centered as to give more full sound but instruments you can pan freely.

Thanx Drew mybuddy who has the recording studio has some strange ideas I do my best to bring him back to earth, will mention it to him, that is actually a first rough mix...he remixed it somewhere else but I like the rough mix better

P.S. I like remains the same very much some background vocals would be cool and possibly some mandolin lead riffs

Hi, Drew sorry about the review of your song it was my attempt at reviewing, I am very new to all of this and just starting to get a feel for it, hope I didn't seem unfair in any way ...the important thing is that you enjoy doing it and rest assured I will try to do a better job next time

Thanks for the objective analysis of Standstill Drew. Yes, my voice does need some attention and plans are already in hand. Unfortunately for cost reasons I can't invest in a new mic just at the moment. It may be partly the recording.
