Singer/songwriter from Pittsburgh, PA.

Bio

Sometimes music is a journey. Not only in where it takes us, but also how we got there. Both of these are of equal importance to writing for Christin Salem, and are evident on her first release, All That I Can Feel.

Christin's first ventures into music were mainly playing covers in various bands around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, though every now and then testing some of her own writing in the process. She soon began to devote more of her time to songwriting, writing about events that influenced her life.

"For me, music has been an outlet; a way to not only express myself, but also a means to deal with things in my life." Her early writings, along with the encouragement of family and friends, led Christin to put together an EP of her best writing; although, that would prove to be difficult.

Faced with some struggles in her life, recording had to be put on hold for a while--but her writing was not. Christin again drew from those experiences and they soon informed her music, providing a means of healing from the obstacles she faced. Instead of feeling defeated, she felt inspired and made her way back into the studio to start her record in 2010.

"Not having a gigging band at the time posed some initial challenges, so I had to learn a lot about arrangement in order to get the sound in my head onto the tracks." Working with seasoned musicians around the Pittsburgh area (and juggling studio availability and budget constraints), each track was demoed and fine-tuned until they reached the sound she had hoped for them. The tracks are deeply personal, and serve as both catharsis and epilogue for Salem's life experiences.

Recording was finished in the fall of 2012, and not long after, she earned a featured artist spot on ReverbNation after garnering high ratings on her SoundOut Review. Her music was also accepted by Pandora Radio and Women of Substance Radio on Live 365, and her song "Smoke and Mirrors" was voted into the top 10 on Women of Substance Radio's charts. Also, her songs "Every Step Away" and "Tired Day" were played on UC Berkeley's radio show The Next Big Thing.

For Christin, her musical journey had not been without its setbacks. But those trying experiences helped shape her writing, which in turn provided a light to shine through her troubles.

"In the end, I want to make music that others going through dark times can relate to. And maybe it might help them feel less alone."
