It's all about the songs with me. When I can, I perform in singer-songwriter venues and I play in an old-time string band here in Mountain View, AR (a great music community), but my real focus is songwriting. I tend toward mostly acoustic sounds, but also write in contemporary country styles and even reach back to my old rockabilly roots. Everything I write is influenced by my years of involvement in Ozark/Appalachian traditions.

One writing project, "Arkansas Stories," has produced fifty or more original story songs about people and events in Arkansas history, a series of CDs, public radio and tv programming in Arkansas, and teacher in-service workshops.

Latest News

My latest direction in writing is tending toward a blend of traditional acoustic instrumentation with old rockabilly sounds - we'll see where that goes. Work is moving ahead on a musical play based on a strange episode in Arkansas history - the "Brooks-Baxter War."

Welcome to Broadjam Charley! You are an awesome story teller my friend, and I love your Americana songs. That Banjo rocks on "The Last Local"!

Diana - Thank you so much. I'm looking forward to this Broadjam neighborhood. I did a quick browse through some of your songs and heard lyrics fashioned by someone with skills to use, change, or redefine rules and a level of music-side mastery that makes me envious. Makes me appreciate your comments to me all the more.

Aww thanks Charley. I am a work in progress like the rest of us here. And we are all better together. Broadjam folk are good people. I love this tribe!

Thanks much, Don. We've had some hard looks at it, but it's still out there on the streets of music square for now. It's a little long, for sure.
