Story Behind The Song
My local Red Cross Chapter in Washington State, requested a song for their Annual Heroes Breakfast to honor heroic acts of courage and compassion. Jim Fischer and I looked deeply into what it takes for someone to step up and help someone in their darkest hour. I remember talking to several people who made a difference in someone's life without thinking about the cost to themselves. I discovered that we all hold a light that is strong enough to carry us through any challenge whether for ourselves or someone else.
With the current pandemic of the Covid-19 virus, my hope is that this song will remind anyone who listens that in all of us, there is enough hope and light for anyone who needs it.
Song Description
Two strangers, each experience the same storm. One lets go and cries for help in the darkness. The other steps up to help without thinking. Each gives each other something to hold onto to get through the chaos.
We all hold a powerful light within us that can rise to the surface when needed most. It demonstrates the best part of humanity. It is what angels and heroes are made of in times of crisis.

Lyrics
She thought that she was safe.
Her world was in control.
She planned out every step,
Each path that she would go.
Then the storm came crashing through
And tore it all apart.
Leaving the only sound,
A cry deep from her heart.
Then came an Angel in the dark,
A light to show the way.
Through the darkest night,
Into a brighter day.
A caring soul who reaches out
In answer to a call,
Showing that somewhere in each heart
There lies a spirit of hero in us all.
He worked from day to day,
Just barely getting by.
He wanted more in life
But never took the time.
Then the storm came crashing through,
On the wind he heard a cry.
Without a second thought,
He knew he had to try.
Like an Angel in the dark,
A light to show the way,
Through the darkest night,
Into a brighter day.
A caring soul who reaches out
In answer to a call.
Showing that somewhere in each heart
There lies a spirit
of a hero in us all.
On the road we travel
It can seem so alone.
Strangers passing,
always looking straight ahead.
Suddenly, life can shatter.
The road we know is gone.
But if we feel that someone cares,
We find the Strength to carry on.
As Angels in the dark,
Lights to show the way.
Through the darkest night,
Into a brighter day.
Caring souls who reach
out in an answer to a call.
Showing that somewhere in each heart,
There lies a courage in us all.
Of an Angel in the Dark
A light to show the way.
Though the darkest night,
into a brighter day.
A caring soul who reaches out
In answer to a call.
Showing that somewhere in each heart
There lies a spirit of a hero
In us all.
He reached out.
She held on.
Life had a brand new start.
Thanks to the Spirit
of an Angel in the Dark.
