Bio
Justina Shandler is a singer-songwriter and composer for media raised in Roanoke, VA. Her songs have been described as the music baby of Regina Spektor and Billy Joel. Shandler uses unconventional chord progressions and specific, blunt, lyrics to tell meaningful musical stories.
Shandler is currently a rising junior majoring in Media Writing and Production at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music. She was one of 15 students selected nationwide to participate in the school's Bruce Hornsby Contemporary Songwriting program. Previously, she received a scholarship to attend the Five Week Performance Program at Berklee College of Music where she was one of 10 songwriters chosen to perform in a showcase at Café 939. In 2012, Shandler won first place in Indie International Songwriting Contest's rock category for her song "Someone Else's Bed". Later that year, she took first place in the renowned UK Songwriting Contest's love song category for her song "If You Ever Miss Me".
In June 2013, Shandler participated in the Johnny Mercer Songwriters workshop held at Northwestern University. She worked with master teachers Jon Lind, Lari White, and Craig Carnelia, as well as 13 other songwriters from around the world. In October 2013, Shandler will perform at Lincoln Center in New York as a finalist in the Mountain Stage New Song Contest (NPR). This summer, Shandler is living in Los Angeles interning with film composer Jay Vincent.
