Geila Zilkha Bio
Geila Zilkha is a successful and highly recognized singer in Japan. With a solid background in jazz and additional essence of strong soul music, her vocal performances pleases the audiences ears and hearts wherever she sings.
Having an Israeli Father and Japanese Mother, she was born and raised in Kobe and bilingual in Japanese and English. After finishing her studies as a jazz vocalist in Berklee College of Music (Boston, USA) in 1991, she had returned to her hometown Kobe working as a TV and Radio personality. In 1995, she had moved to Tokyo, the center of culture in Japan. She had started to sing in jazz lives in between busy Radio DJ and singing Television commercial songs.
From 2002, she began and lead her gospel choir group "Voissalot Choir", and from 2006 started singing duo shows titled "SOLO-DUO" with a highly acclaimed male vocalist Ayumu Yahaba. In March 2009, after she had successfully led "Voissalot Choir" to Apollo Theater (New York, USA) she decided to concentrate her efforts on solo shows.
In May 2010 she had earned the Grand-Prix title for the annual "Kobe Jazz Vocal Queen Contest". Same year October, she had released her first solo album "all Me" which became a surprise mega hit amongst the jazz audiences, as many had never heard of her until then. The top jazz magazines in Japan "Jazz Japan", "Jazz Life" and "Jazz Hihyo (Jazz Review)" gave high recognitions, and a national newspaper "Asahi Newspaper" put together major articles on her twice.
In September 2011 she had released her second solo album "appearance" and went on tour throughout Japan with her leader band, always blessed with a warm and welcome audience. Her final live at JZ Brat (Shibuya, Tokyo) was packed full of anxious audiences who waited to hear her sing the songs from her second album.
In 2013, she released her a duet album "breathing" with male vocalist Ayumu Yahaba as SOLO-DUO. And in July2013, her third album "Day Dreaming"was released.
Currently, she sings regularly at top jazz clubs and concert halls throughout Japan, and also teaches jazz vocal energetically at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, the definitive school of jazz located in Kanagawa.
