I am from East Alton, IL, a small town near St. Louis. Given that everyone in my family sang or played an instrument, it was only natural that I was drawn to music from an early age. Unfortunately, I both started and quit piano lessons at age 4. I continued to play around with it on my own and started my primary instrument, the trombone, in 3rd grade. Immediately, I saw that I had a natural talent for music when I would grab other kids' instruments and master the B flat concert scale in two minutes. It was during my first year of concert band that I decided to become a music teacher.
During high school, I met my other passion, Spanish. Although I entered college with music on my mind, I could not give up Spanish. Torn, I pursued both until I came to the realization that I was not as strong at music as my peers and that I would probably be jobless, since schools were cutting music programs. So, I graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a music minor and went on to teach Spanish, which I still happily do.
After college, I felt disconnected from music. I would fiddle with my collection of instruments from time to time and take out the trombone each summer to play with the municipal band. It wasn't until 2013 that I got back into the swing of things. After some life changing events, I had a lot of emotion to release, which came out in the form of songwriting.
In order to grow as a songwriter, I joined Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). NSAI has labeled me as 'One to Watch' for a number of songs and also recommended "Chocolate" for their publishers' luncheon. In 2016, I became a co-coordinator for NSAI's St. Louis Chapter. Bruce B. (St. Louis)- "She has such a natural gift for catchy melodies as well as charmingly clever ways with a lyric. So many of her songs have a nice "surprise" inside."
