Hi again. Thank you very much for your appreciative and fun review of "Ride the Wave." I love Cheap Trick and to be compared with them is an honor! I also enjoy very much the punk groups like Joy Division, Clan of Xymox. I have Black Flag, too. It looks like you have a new one up so I'm going to take a listen. Best to you, my friend! John
Thanks for the compliment, I grew up smack in the middle of the early 80's Hardcore punk scene of Madison, Chicago and Minneapolis (actually was starting a band with Bob Stinson from Replacements fame..unfortunately, was 3 weeks into writing material, city pages had snuck into out rehearsal space and wrote that we would be the next big thing out of Minneapolis next to soul Asylum ...and he past away way to abruptly. Alot of my friends went on to become fairly popular in the underground music scene (Babes in Toyland, Killdozer, and was even offered the frontman position for a band that the singer of scratch acid was starting, but I was young and didn't think texas would be my kinda place back then so I declined his offer only to find out years later that the band was The Jesus Lizard...talk about a botched opportunity lol...
I heard of all those bands you mentioned. I loved the punk groups, especially goth. You have some really interesting stories of angst. Nearly everyone I know had missed or botched opportunities, including myself. I met Gerry Beckley of America and I handed him the wrong tape. I should have handed him "Far From Home." Would have been perfect for the group! Bob Bentley nearly got one of his own songs given to Charlie Pride. He was actually in a recording studio where he got to play on Mick Jagger's guitar. His band was ready to be signed on a major label when the group broke up. I'll get a friend request over to you. John
Lol...I'm pretty sure that I have enough great stories that even Martin Scorsese would have a heyday making a movie about all the wild things I've been through...
Scott (Ravensong) is right...you have very cool sounds! You very much know how to create mood as well as the very authentic sounds of each genre you do. Thank you for listening to my tracks and the stars on "Far From Home" and "We Didn't Have Time Enough." It's always a pleasure to receive those from a musician I haven't met yet. You're an excellent player. I just use a guitar for writing songs but that's as far as I take it!
Well I appreciate quality songwriting and you my friend are awesome...i just had to get all the sounds out of my head and thus led me to learn how to read and write music notation and structured songs but mostly it was my growing up in the early 80's Hardcore punk DIY punk scenes so it's like finally being able to share what I've learned from many years of listening to others I've admired for their skilks..cheers
Hey Kyle thanks so much for your time and positive review of "Curse of the Blood Witch" Greatly appreciated. Play on.
