Working In Harmony For Home and Hearth
This two-disc CD is a collection of 29 songs and poems, all composed and recorded by local Rhode Island songwriters, composers, and poets. The common thread addresses the issues of homelessness and substandard housing, foremost in a global sense, to be sure, but as importantly with an eye toward local action in the artists' home Ocean State and in the artists' local communities.
The songs on this CD are in a variety of styles and the encompasses a wide diversity of the contributing artists' backgrounds. The list ranges from a Grammy Award winner to a young child prodigy, with all manner of differences contained along the spectrum in-between, in terms of the artists' ages, backgrounds, musical and literary styles, and levels of acclaim. You'll find everything from heartfelt ballads to parody to political satire to humorous ditties, everything from classical-style pieces to unabashedly-folkie numbers, all within the great diverse artistic traditions which have created such socially-conscious offerings. Ultimately the unifying strength of the project is the marshaling all of these diverse creative forces toward the single-minded, simple idea that art can enlighten, inform, and inspire positive social change.
