Sussex Cowboy

Take two characters called Billy and Bonnie from their normal surroundings in a 101 country songs, and transplant them to Brighton, England 2009. Things might be a little different. This is the premise of "The Ballad of Bonnie and Billy" (clue; sample lyric: "...Billy wakes up in another man's bed." That's one of the tracks from Jaybee's sixth solo album, "Sussex Cowboy", which also features "Brokeback Mountain", in which Ang Lee's randy cowboys are transplanted to Devil's Dyke in the South Downs in the middle of a rave; "Virginia Woolf" in which the Sussex Cowboy rides boldly up to Bloomsbury and rescues said Ginny from her bluestocking life; and "The Wild Wild East", in which things go strangely Bollywood. Elsewhere there are vampires in "Oskar and Eli" (inspired by the movie "Let The Right One In"); an abused lover's lament in the torch song "Conquistador", and a guide to internet dating in "Blind Date". Sussex cowboy mixes stonking synth riffs with weeping pedal steel licks. It's pop but kind of country too. It's a little bit gay but safe for straights. It's funny but deadly serious. And it's out now at www.jaybeemusic.com (for streaming and mp3 downloads) and amazon.com and amazon.co.uk (on CD, and MP3 downloads)
