Take Off Your Shoes is the second release from my band, Flibbertijibbet. The album consists of 11 original songs penned by me. The styles vary somewhat but we are a standard 2 guitar, drums, bass format. The songs have a sometimes Americana feel and a sometimes psychedelic feel reminiscent of some great albums of the 70's. My writing leans toward the literate, I like to write about real life and tell stories;check out Spaghetti Southwestern for a classic story! Most of the songs are upbeat and have a nice tempo to them, I guess something you could dance to. This being our second release the songs are more fully realized and they come from the maturity of being together as a band for a number of years. My favorite songwriters write about themes that could have many meanings, thus many of the songs are open for interpretation and that's encouraged while listening. I did write one great Alt-Country tune that I feel any singer could have a hit with, it's called "Gracies" and it's about the true friendships that can develop around a bar that hosts the same patron's night after night and where one can always feel comfortable. I'm proud of that song, many people have told me it's a personal favorite and carries meaning to them which is a great compliment to receive as a songwriter. Then there's the hit single, "I'm Just a Dog". We always joked it was the hit on the record because it has all the elements; a whip smart rock-n-roll beat, punchy guitars, a great lyric and a catchy chorus all under 4 minutes. It fits the formula perfectly, give it a listen. My personal favorite though is "The Finished Product". This is one of my best songs and it just has that feel of being lifted from a record put out in 1972. It's got a universal theme about growing up and the music is great American rock-n-roll; big, bold and beautiful! I hope you like all of them.
