You seem to be pretty broadjam savvy pro...what's the tip for getting more song plays? i review and listen and such..get good reviews for my tunes but not many song plays...am I missing something?

There's o simple answer to that one. I don't review as often as I used to and the plays kept coming in after that, so I'm not entirely sure reviewing is the key to a lot of plays, but it certainly doesn't hurt being my first 5000 were earned that way.

I'll say this though... I promote my work in the following ways.

1) Submit often.
2) Compete often.
3) Share on Facebook, twitter, and myspace. Provide links.
4) HeadlinerFM is a good way to promote work with other artists and through other artists.
5) When reviewing, provide specific feedback that may suggest you have more to offer than an just an opinion based on taste. Let them know you have some tech knowledge by making specific suggestions as to how to fix things you're not vibing with
6) Get involved on numerous sites and traffic them all back to BJ.
7) Get a primo account and establish your website. Plays that occur on your hosted site will show up on BJ. Most of my lays likely occurred through my pro site and not here on BJ.
8) Keep it real and check your ego at the door. I used to take an "I'm the best" approach and found that people disliked that. Now I just tae a "I'm grateful and proud to be a part of this production" approach.

Hope it all helps. Sorry I wasn't more useful.

Ah I see..I suck at the networking portion and I'm too much my own worst critic. I have been submitting more often though. I have all the social networks but I'd rather spend more time recording and honing my skills and I think it's biting me in the arse...I try to give good technical reviews with good detail and as far as ego..I don't have much of that, I've got vast room for improvement and am always looking to expand and get better..thanks for the info and I will attempt to network more and take your advice! thanks

especially about the networking. people have to know you exist, be invited to listen and decide if they want to hear more. and, it doesn't hurt if you invite people to share your music with friends and family.

the primo mob membership is another strong piece of advice. just the web hosting alone pays for itself. not evryone wants to join BJam but they can listen all they want to your website.

best of luck to you. . .

Good advice Peter my friend. I joined NumberOne Music and I'm astounded by the play's I get and e-mails from people I've had almost 40,000 plays in 4-5 months since joining. Evem my website through BJAM has not delivered that .....

Just got the new operating system to run East/West on... and now the authorization software says my codes don't exist.

Top that with having to download a 2 Gig update for Pro-Tools, having to re-install all of my plugins, and having to dig up every serial number in the world to run my software again... I must say my head has a 70% chance of exploding over the next 24 hours.

Wish me luck... If anyone has any cautionary advice to share at this point... Let me know now so I can avoid any pitfalls that could potentially ruin the rest of the week.

In the meantime... I'll be silently screaming in my studio until this storm blows over.

Penny: I'm trying... Now I'm discovering I have to purchase a new copy of Pro-Tools too. (lowers head in frustration.) If Waves or Reason pulls a 180 on me too I'm gonna need to be sedated.

Steve: Was always Archive Productions. Decided to remove the Protilius name from the business itself and treat it as an artist under its wing.

To be honest... We're doing much more work for other artists these days than we have for Protilius lately.

So yeah... Making it official now that I'm not hung up on competitions and what not.

I am still surprised at how my song "wither" is the number 1 song on the electronic industrial chart and number 2 on the North Carolina chart and my demo for "title" is number 10 on the electronic industrial chart....is there something I am missing? I honestly don't see how my demo tracks are doing better than any of my other music...weird to me but either way I am greateful my music is being appreciated and enjoyed by others

I had a long week last week consisting of 13+hr days. In an attempt to not let the responsibility of adult life get in the way of my artistry I decided to challenge myself. I igave myself exactly one hour to create a cohesive peice of music. I would record all instruments and any vocals within the alloted time and assess at the end. I ended up with 4 complete tracks, and one instrumental piece that is not very elaborate at all considering I did it all in about 15min...long story. Out of the 4 other tracks one is almost totally useless for me because it is out of my genre but I could picture someone else singing it ...maybe Chris Martin from Coldplay? WTF? One of the,m needs the choruse re-recorded and the other 2 are highly useable. It was challenging to start with a blank canvas then begin laying down a drum track or a synth part or picking up a guitar and attempting to create a pice of work. There were times I started with an accapella vocal then layed the instruments down around that...it was a great time and I learned a lot. I may share the tracks at some point but I am torn..do I display the work as it is or do I re record parts, add to the original work? My artistic heart/mind say leave it as it is and put it out but I know most people wont "get it". So I may end up keeping the original pieces but reworking them and showing the "sketch" along with the finished piece..feedback?

You certainly can. Here are some directions - let us know if you need anything else.

1. Once logged in, click on the edit profile link at the top of the page.
2. Near the middle of the page you'll see a field labeled "Artist Name." You can enter your changes here. Also, a few fields below that is your Broadjam URL - you should consider changing this as well.
3. After that click the "Submit" button just below the Broadjam URL field.

well there stranger...it seems we keep crossing paths in this broadjam review machine don't we? Thanks for the review, considering that is the first time I ever shredded my vocal chords and screamed like that I appreciate the 4 out of 5 rating cause I don't normally record vox like that and it is a very rough mix...I'm about ready to pull my whole Smothered Love EP backcause I keep learning new stuff everyday..thanks for the tips

I'm glad you were able to take my criticism with a grain of salt.

I like the screaming, I like screaming a lot. As a song... Its certainly yours. And even though there is always room for improvement with any song/review... I always try to look at what I like first:)

Keep it up.

Dude, ..thank you so much! Our next song makes de_Humanize look puny :-) ... I'm surprised you like D_H more than Obstinate_Shift (on a production level), because I added a million production tricks to spice up the mix. I over-compressed D_H as well. Doesn't matter, I'm glad you like the mixes brotha. I think that tracking four rhythm guitars on O_Shift might have been overkill. Going to go back to just two rhythms on the next song again.

Heh Black, Sankey sent me your way being he thought you were my clone. Like the dark vibes "brother from another planet orbiting the same star." I think we bumped heads a while back in a review to be honest, would explain why we're connected.

Anyhow, keep up with the dark vibes, let me know if you ever wanna bust upon the piggy bank to contract some mastering services, we'll plushen your work right up:)
