Although he was born in Amherst Ohio, James Kennedy was raised in the rolling hills of East Tennessee, where he developed his deep love for Country music. Growing up, he listened and fell in love with the music of Randy Travis, Alabama, and The Great George Strait, many of whose songs were written by Dean Dillon, who, unknown to James, lived just down the road. Even as a small boy, his dream was to be a staff writer for Sony or Warner Brothers, but life had other plans. In 1987, he moved to Cleveland Ohio and got married. A son, Dustin was born in 1989, and the marriage ended in 1995. The divorce was the fuel James needed to really get serious about his writing. For the next few years he made the bar scene, hoping to make connections in Cleveland Country Music circles, but the Nashville Connection never happened for him. Today, he is happily married, and still dreaming!

This song was written in 2009. I went to work one night with just the title, and started running lines in my head like I usually do, and this song just came POURING out of me! Although my brother is listed as co-writer because we are 50/50 on all our songs, and I can truly say I wrote it, in all honesty, I was just holding the pen. I cried all night as it came flowing out, picturing it in my head, and it was days before I could sing it all the way through without getting choked up. I have always dreamed of getting this song to Gary Allen, but I have zero connections in the music industry, so thats not likely to happen.
I also have a dream of several big name artists recording this song, and donating all royalties, including songwriters royalties, to breast cancer related charities. never gonna happen, but a guy can dream.

WOW! Hey thanks for the comment! Glad you liked the song!
I wrote that one many years ago when I wanted to hear some real traditional Country music, and the only thing on my radio was country pop on the country channel. Sat in my truck with just an idea, and it just came together in about an hour, with just words and melody, and the music came later.

honestly the idea is beyond imagination. do you think your music right now is not growing because of quality... or because people just aren't finding it?"

Dont know, but Traditional Country isnt as popular as it was when this song was written. And I have zero connections to get it cut.

Hi James Kennedy,

I recently discovered your music " Give your heart to me "while exploring artists on the platform and your sound really stood out. There's a strong identity in your style that feels like it could reach a much wider audience.

I work with independent artists helping them grow their fanbase through digital advertising campaigns, SEO visibility, playlist pitching, and streaming growth strategies. I also consult on music sync licensing opportunities for film, TV, and media placements.

Out of curiosity, are you currently focusing more on growing listeners or exploring licensing opportunities for your music?

Actually, I read that wrong because my granddaughter was climbing all over me at the time and I couldnt focus. That song is NOT signed with anyone. I would be happy to listen you, but I am surprised that you picked that particular song. I think HEAVEN EITHER WAY or LITTLE THINGS are better than that, but hey, I just write em...LOL

Hey James,
Haha no worries at all, sounds like you had a full house there, Loll
And honestly, I get what you mean... sometimes the songs we least expect are the ones that catch attention from the outside. That's actually part of what I look for, not just the "best" track, but the ones with hidden potential for reach or placement.

I'll definitely take a listen to Heaven Either Way and Little Things too.. curious to hear those.
Since you mentioned that track isn't signed, that actually opens up a few interesting directions in terms of exposure and possible licensing angles. Rather than going back and forth here, it might be easier to share a couple of thoughts with you directly.
Shoot me a quick email at cedarakazi630@gmail.com and I'll point out something I noticed about your catalog that could help you get more traction.

Talk soon,
Cedar

I love "The Story of My Life"! I wrote a song with the same title but entirely different. I wrote a concept album about a woman's life, and that's the penultimate song. I'm slowly having the songs recorded; the first ones are uploaded here.

Thanks! Glad you like it! I wrote that one many years ago, and not being a singer, I sent it to SONG CELLER in Nashville and they did a great demo for me. Later, a guy named James Meadows picked it up, and thats the version I have on here.

I use Pearl Snap Studios in Nashville. They do a fantastic job for me.
