SongCrafter First Chapter ©2023 Creative InRoads, LLC
Once Upon a Time, there was a famous village, a City of Music where many artists gathered together to celebrate the gifts of life and song.
And, in this village lived one of the songcrafters. He was known by many to be a good man, a man who had many friends. And, every day these friends would come to the man's home to share their songs and stories of life and love.
It would seem to all the villagers that the songcrafter was a very fortunate man. Surrounded by music and people who loved him and the music they all played.
But, the songcrafter held a deep secret that he shared with no one. He was lonely. His heart was empty and so very, very sad.
And, every night, when the village slept, the songcrafter lay in his bed and sang a song to God asking that a miracle would come to fill his heart with the joys he always wrote about.
God, who loves music, decided he would gift the songcrafter with the Miracle of LOVE.
So, when the songcrafter awoke from another fitful night's sleep he found a most marvelous creature waiting at his door. A beautiful young maiden who asked if she could come in.
At first, the songcrafter was afraid to welcome her into his house. She was so beautiful in his eyes. But, when the young maiden smiled, the man heard songs so pure of heart that he knew she was truly sent by God, that his many nights of prayer were now answered, and that his life was never to be the same, again.
And, so began a story of love and friendship, a union so perfect in the eyes of God, that the whole village came to marvel at the songcrafter and his beloved maiden.
And, in those early days, the songcrafter would sing to his beloved so many songs of horses on wing and children's laughter. Songs of life fulfilled and dreams for the making.
It was not long after, that the songcrafter and maiden were wed, a celebration as none had witnessed before with sixteen children as groomsmen and maids of honor. Candles of eternal love were lit, songs of betrothal were sung, and the sacrament of man and woman was consummated.
The songcrafter was so amazed at his good fortune, that every day, where ever he could find someone to listen, he would proclaim his love and tell tales of life never imagined.
And, everyday he would tell his new wife, soon, so very soon, they would put the laughter of children into their home, they would fly upon the wings of their long dreamed horses. There would be a farm, there would be mountains and a life of love together.
But, the songcrafter was so engrossed by his own storytelling that the time never came. He would always sing of tomorrow's promise and never did he once see the hurt that was growing inside his beloved, a hurt so painful to her, that God could no longer abide her sorrow and and sent her away from the songcrafter.
Realizing his folly, the songcrafter wandered all throughout the village and surrounding countryside. He needed to find his beloved so he could tell her how much he loved her, how much it shamed him that he did not see the harm he had caused her. After all, he was a good man, and surely she would forgive him.
After many lost days and so many more dark nights of endless searching, the songcrafter could go no further. He collapsed by the side of an unfamiliar road. He had travelled so far from his home, so far from his precious dreams, that all he could do was weep with unabated sorrow that swept through his entire being and wracked his heart and soul until he could scarcely breathe.
His stomach was sour with the bitter taste of salt from endless tears. Every labored beat of his heart reminded him of how much hurt he had caused - for her, for himself and for his
God that so loved the songcrafter.
His thoughts would not leave him be. To have known such beauty and pureness of soul. The songcrafter would hold his breath and still taste the scent of her skin and hair. He would bury his hands in the cold gravel of the roadway and still feel the warmth of her touch.
He would cover his ears but still hear the song of her joyous laughter.
He would shut his eyes and still the light that shown from within her would pierce through his
darkness to reveal, time and time again, the truth he did not want to believe, the truth he did want to know. She was lost to him.
(Musical Interlude)
Seasons unfold to bring about change. One for birth, one for growth, one for rest and reflection, and one for rebirth. This is how it has been all throughout the ages and shall ever remain. It is God's will and our path to live.
It was this revelation that gave cause to the songcrafter to open his eyes and once again see that the world, even without his beloved, was a most miraculous creation, a gift to be revered.
And, much like his love for the one that was lost, the songcrafter knew he had to continue - continue believing he was, after all, a good man. God had taught him that love and faith were not fancies of myth but the very fabric from which each of us is fashioned and formed.
The songcrafter knew he would never stop loving his beloved. This was a burden and a joy he would carry within his heart until the day of his death.
But, do not think him a sad or broken man. Because, there has never been a time without a new season to arrive. Even the season of love.
Though many a night's sleep will be lost to the dreams of his maiden bride, the songcrafter is a changed man. Because, now, when he sings to God of a longing for the
Miracle of LOVE, he is no longer afraid to answer the door.
No longer will he waste his praise on the promise of tomorrow. He will live each and every moment hereafter with the knowledge that he has the strength and capacity to truly love another above himself.
After all, he was once loved by the most beautiful creature who came a-knocking at his door. And, in return, he loved her with equal measure.
