Sweet Voice
The first performance of this song - captured in our old flat in Sandycove, where I wrote it. One night I decided that I just couldnt take it anymore I called you up and told you that, despite the late hour, I would soon be at your door I set off on my journey - 122 to town then 25A The bus sat customarily in traffic and I sat Impatiently willing it on its way Now Im no romantic but these Romeo antics Mustve got me in a mood The next thing I know is that my poetic nose Has caught the notes of your perfume And every light is red I should be in my bed But ringing in my head Its your voice, its your voice, Its your sweet voice that calls me. I turned up on your doorstep and Your Dad raised his eyebrow, like he does. And, ever so politely, he enquired just exactly What time I thought it was. Coming from the stairs behind him I heard, "Aw, leave the guy alone!" He chuckled and smiled and, feigning shock and surprise, Said "Kids today - I just dont know!" Now Im no romantic etc. Every light is red etc. We talked of films wed seen; our weeks - how theyd been; Last nights funny dreams And in the back of our minds thought maybe we might make A good man and wife ... Now, Im no romantic etc. Every light is red (just break it, driver, no ones around) I should be in my bed (snuggled deep in the eiderdown) But ringing in my head Its your voice etc. copyright 2006 Jay Wilson
