Artist Biography:Taken From Earth
Boston based song writer and recording artist David Caira has released his first full length cd “Lookin’ for Uncle John”under the band name Taken From Earth. Caira wrote the fourteen songs on this album during his mother’s search for her long lost brother who disappeared after his release from prison for bank robbery.
Caira explains “I could see how it was consuming her emotionally to find him, and, at the same time, I was going through some personal issues of my own and trying to find myself”.
Caira calls his style of music “bluesified rock/pop with a touch of countrified soul”. “Lookin’ for Uncle John” contains elements of these styles over the albums fourteen songs. “I wrote these songs while struggling with relationships, a new job, and then “partying” to get away from it all”. Caira explains “ The friends that I grew up with were going through the same issues, and I rolled us all into one character “Jimmy”, the albums central figure whose search for his uncle parralells his search for himself”
Recording took place at Prism Sound,Acton, Ma. and at Bopnique Musique Studio, Chelmsford,Ma. “John Ellis(Neil Schon,Godsmack) was the first person that I felt cared about my music other than me” laughs Caira. “John helped me find my voice”
Caira began experimenting with different styles and John Ellis introduced him to Anthony Resta(Collective Soul,Duran Duran,Elton John,Guster,Nuno Bettencort,Perry Farrell) at Bopnique Studio. “Anthony and I began a collaborative song writing relationship and he helped me get where I wanted to go as a artist”. Anthony Resta plays the Hammond B-3 organ, harmonica, guitar, and drums on the album.
“At night Anthony, Keryadi(Sutedja, engineer) and I would fire up cigars, pour drinks, plug in the strats and Les Pauls and just have a good time, we’d set up microphones,Anthony would play the cowbell and I clinked beer bottles together, recorded them, just good vibes, good times”.
Late night sessions put Caira in the mood to capture his songs, of which he says”We would have a good old time playin and hangin out, then I’d be driving home at 3am wishing the sessions didn’t end”.
By 2006, the search for his uncle ended as did the sessions. The songs on “Lookin’ for Uncle John” chronologicly trace Caira’s steps through this phase of his life leading up to the finding of his uncle’s final destinations. Caira took photos of his uncle’s final destinations and placed them in the cd insert.
Now that the cd is complete, Caira says he believes he found some answers and is in a happier place creatively and personally; “I made some good friends through it all, recorded the songs I had inside me, and I am grateful for the good memories”.
