My Cell Phone

Story Behind The Song

I wanted to see if I could use a device as ubiquitous as the cell phone, that we all use everyday as a metaphor for modern romance.

Song Description

A song about breaking up through the vehicle of the cell phone. A bit of Ben Folds, a dash of Bare Naked Ladies and a sprig of Cake are all mixed together in this uptempo, indie pop/rock tune that will get both your feet tapping.

Lyrics

You liked it baby
I liked it too
When we're connected you know just what to do
Gotta hear you moan on my cell phone

Jammed on the subway
and my calls aren't getting through
Am I just going crazy Is it me or is it you?
I'm all alone with my cell phone

Got me thinking baby
Thinking hard about you
Could you be hooking up with somebody new?
Don't leave me hanging on this damn cell phone

And I feel like you want me
Only when I'm gone
And I feel like you'd wait for me and leave me when I get home

Have I lost my connection
Am I still getting through
Telll me if we're breaking up
Is that one bar or two
Throw me a bone - tiny plastic phone

Just text me baby
Let me know I'm still in touch
Just make it ring am I asking all that much?
Give me ringtone on my cell phone

And I feel like you want me
Only when I'm gone
And I feel like you'd wait for me and leave me when I get home

I'm losing you I'm losing ground
My whole world is upside down
My heart aches I'm crumblin'
I feel like I'm hangin' just hangin' on

Nobody's callin'
Dishes piled in the sink
If wishes were flamingos
There'd be a whole lotta pink
And so I moan into my cell phone

Yeah! Dug that tune. First off; great to hear this kind of playing/singing in the groove. That alone, makes this work, but there were a lot of other great elements as well. Liked the theme, and some of the lyrics were priceless; "If wishes were flamingoes..." Really liked that break at 1:08 and the vocal harmonies at the end of that section were really nice. Same at 2:32, and that rise in pitch along with the harmonies all in the groove at 2:49 made this song seem really alive!

Heard some Tears For Fears influence on the chorus which is a good thing. Snappy verse, a little Texas country/rock or rockabilly feel. This is a unique track with the verse and chorus juxtaposition. It could have some commercial uses, it is a niche product I'd say though. Kind of a song with multiple genres in it. But still a fun song over all with fun lyrics to go along with it. And being creative is never a bad thing in my opinion, and this is a creative track in my opinion as well.

good energy right out of the box, retro sound classic rock sound. almost brit rock. good "today" all alone with my cell phone....like the multiple bridges you have.
