Song Description
During the economic downturn, lot of people ended up losing homes who never thought they would. One of them was my hardworking neighbor who lost his home to foreclosure. As a teacher, I saw the impact of homelessness of my students...this song was a reminder to all those who thought homelessness was a lifestyle choice and not the result of an economy spoiled by greed.

Lyrics
Tonight
(verse)I had my daily paper and the kids at the table
Something cookin', sun going down
I had my daily troubles, my simmering hopes
I wondered what to do with that hole in the roof
And I wondered if the kids were gonna ruin the game
And I wondered if the sky was gonna rain tonight... but now
I wonder where I will sleep tonight
(chorus)Tonight I got the kids in the back of the Chevy
Tonight I'll read a story to them 'fore it gets dark
Tonight I'll tuck their feet into a quilt in the backseat
I hope it's okay to just sleep in this car
Tonight..
(verse)I had my taxes coming and my papers to gather
I wondered why the government was takin' so much
I had my leases and payments and that brand new TV
That I wondered how would look in that living room hutch
And I wondered if I'd ever get a break from this job
And I wondered how many days 'til I was done for good...but now...
I wonder where I will sleep tonight...
(chorus)
Tonight I hear the temperature's dropping to 20
Tonight I hear the mission beds were filled before dark
Tonight I a few more blankets may just keep out the chill
I hope it's okay to just sleep in this car
Tonight
(bridge)I wonder if tomorrow will bring a change in the weather
I wonder if tomorrow will bring a change in my luck
I wonder if tomorrow if I stand on the corner someone will call me
... somebody call me tonight?
(chorus)Tonight I got the kids in the back of the Chevy
Tonight I'll read a story to them 'fore it gets dark
Tonight I a few more blankets may just keep out the chill
I hope it's okay to just sleep in this car
I wish I didn't have to sleep in my car
I hope it's okay to just sleep in this car
Tonight
