here come the blues

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this with the legendary Mark Marchetti back in the early 90's and it's languished in one catalog after another, we both think its too good a song to never be heard from again so I thought I'd get it worked up by the pros and run it up the flag pole and see if anybody salutes it

Lyrics

There's a place in my heart
that's cold and dark
it's a lonely room
and it's occupied
by a love that's died
it's a haunted tomb
late at night
when I'm all alone
the chains start to rattle
and the wind starts to moan
it goes oooooooo here come the blues

when you're torn apart
by a haunted heart
and to make things worse
I caught a lovers curse
from a broken dream
loneliness cuts
right to the bone
and the chains start to rattle
and the wind starts to moan
it goes oooooo here come the blues

outside its pourin' rain
and there's lightening and thunder
I don't know whether I'm insane
or its a spell I'm under

every night when the moon is bright
I feel her here by me
It hurts the most
when I see the ghost
of how it used to be
the saddest feeling
that I've ever known
is when the chains start to rattle
and the wind starts to moan
it goes oooooo here come the blues
oooooo here come the blues
ooooooo here come the blues

The song had great instrumentation and vocals. A definite toe-tapper. The lyrics told a story line, which is what Country music is all about. The arrangement and production were all well done. I enjoyed listening to this song. Nicely done.

Delbert McClinton would be proud...this one is a lot of fun. I love depressing moods played to uplifting toe-tappers. Just a perfect little lyric about bluish feeling coming up now and then. Singer is pretty good...not Delbert...but who is? Bonnie Raitt might like this too... It's just a fine tune.

Solid bar room honky tonk R&B based tune that would be right at home in a Delbert McClinton live set, including the harp. Well done! Great hook!

I like the harmonica and the lead vocals - really sounds good with the drums - sounds a bit like Jerry Reed.
