Lyrics
Small Town Blues
Harry Wendell Hall
He's young and free and his specialty is having himself a good time.
And among the locals in his small town world he's a legend in his own mind.
He'll try to make his forty, forget the overtime.
At a poker game at 4am he's broke, one more time.
(Chorus)
He's got the small town blues, nothing for him to lose.
He'll spend the days of his better years living fast and living loose.
He'll spend all his money on his old truck and his friends.
Small town blues, nothing for him to do.
(Bridge)
When he sees those city limit signs; he wants to get out one last time.
When he sees those city limit signs; he gets tireder of the grind.
When he sees those city limit signs; he gets leaving on his mind.
When he sees those city limit signs; he wants to pull out one last time.
He dreams of moving to a bigger place where he can lose himself in the crowd.
But the woman he loves won't make the change, the city she said is too loud.
He'll lay awake tonight and try to dream past the county line.
But at 5 am, he's up again, and off to work, one more time.
(repeat chorus)
