Lyrics
They Were Meant for Each Other
(Intro)
I. The tiger came along, but when he heard their song, he just kept on walking by.
Lying in the bushes, defying parents' wishes, they saw their stars in the sky.
(Short turnaround)
Sent the boy to London. She's traded to an old man. Love has no accord.
The family honor and caste only matters. Tradition is our world.
(Chorus)
They were meant for each other. Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!
But, this world is cruel with rigid rules. So! So! So! So!
Two heart meet and cultures collide.
The end isn't pretty. The young ones die inside. No! No! No! No!
(Turnaround)
II. This story is so true. I've heard it. Haven't you? She must stay covered up.
Protesting the beat downs. Her voice has no sound. She is just his cup.
(Short turnaround)
She was thrown out after 40 nights of beatings. Wouldn't submit to the lust he was seeking.
Curry was cooking on the stove that evening. She was put out with the dog who's grieving.
(Turnaround)
III. The boy studied Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, then he understood.
Rushing back to Punjab, seeking out his true love, the damage had been done.
(Short turnaround)
He felt so betrayed. He lost all his faith. Father was proud to verify her fate.
The boy took a dagger, stuck it in his heart. Parents lost their children for what?
(Chorus)
They were meant for each other. Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!
But, this world is cruel with rigid rules. So! So! So! So!
Two hearts meet and cultures collide.
The end isn't pretty. The young ones die inside. No! No! No! No!
