Story Behind The Song
I participated in a songwriting workshop, sponsored by the Little Rock Chapter of the Nashville Songwriters Association International a couple of years ago. Our presenter was Doak Turner, a singer/songwriter who lives in Nashville. Among other strategies, he said that we should write about things we love. He said that he wished someone would write a song about bacon. Well, I love bacon and I couldn't stop thinking about it. My song, "Bacon," was selected as a top ten finalist in the Alchemy Songwriting Competition in 2014, where I performed it for a delighted crowd.
Song Description
It's all about the love and addiction for bacon. The song describes the countless ways to include bacon in every meal and how we can't live without it. The lyrics include some outlandish claims, such as swapping your wife for bacon or giving up your first born for bacon. My song lauds bacon as a tradition, an addiction and as being revered.

Lyrics
Bacon
I. Folks up North and way down South sho' nuff love to eat.
And there's one thing we all add to make each meal complete.
Fry it hard. Crumble it up, on a baked potato.
Lay it 'tween white bread with lettuce and tomato. I'm talkin'...
(Chorus)
Bacon. Bacon. Tradition North and South. I said, now...
Bacon. Bacon. We can't live without. Sweet Maple.
Bacon. Bacon. We eat it every meal. Yum! Yum! Yum!
Bacon. Bacon. Addiction is for real, for bacon. Mmm. Bacon.
(Measure)
II. I serve bourbon whiskey shots with a bacon strip.
My ice cream's made with bacon, y'all. Won't ya try a dip?
Hang it high. Smoke it slow. It cures out in th' shed.
Piggy's have a mission, to keep th' country fed. Yeah, yeah, with...
(Chorus)
Bacon. Bacon. Religion North and South. I said now...
Bacon. Bacon. We cram it in our mouth. Ole Hickory.
Bacon. Bacon. I swapped it for my wife. Haw! Haw! Haw!
Bacon. Bacon. You'd give your first born's life, for bacon. Mmm. Bacon
(Measure)
III. I render slow for special beans. You will lick yo' lips.
A home cooked meal or restaurant, you need yo' daily fix.
Thick or thin. Limp or crisp. We wolf it down th' same.
Don't care who your lover is, call out bacon's name. Hey! Hey! Hey!
(Chorus)
Bacon. Bacon. Tradition North and South. I said, now...
Bacon. Bacon. We can't live without. Sweet Maple.
Bacon. Bacon. We eat it every meal. Yum! Yum! Yum!
Bacon. Bacon. Addiction is for real, for bacon. Mmm. Bacon.
