Story Behind The Song

One of 10 original numbers I wrote for a new version of ALICE IN WONDERLAND the musical. This show was performed at 'The Rowntree Theatre, York, England, last week in in June 2013 by'www.wearetheatre.co.uk. It was very well received and has now been booked into 'The Spa Theatre, Bridlington, England for March 2014. This song is for a character called 'The Book-keeper'

Song Description

WITH A SMILE was composed for one of the main characters in the story of 'Alice in Wonderland. This is the song I wrote for the smiling cat to sing to Alice, who is seeking directions and feeling a little lost and lonely in this crazy world of Wonderland.

Why waste all your time in conversation
Telling someone that you really care
Poets use their poetry, some resort to sorcery
But all I do, is answer

Why spend days in making idle chatter
Make some time to stop or pause awhile
If they were to ask of me, my personal philosophy

For everybody needs a friendly feline
Cheshire, Persian, Manx or Siamese

I've never been a one for theorising
As whether claws should be always out or in
It doesn't take a lot to see, they're very good for climbing trees
