Story Behind The Song

Happened to Be is based on the perception of race relations versus the reality of race relations at the supposed pinnacle of racial harmony, the election of President Obama. The underlying theme is that while society has made some progress in respect to race relations, there is still work to be done, especially in regards to intimate relationships.

Song Description

Happened to Be is a story about a man finding a woman with the qualities he has been seeking but she happens to be of a different race. As they go about enjoying their new found bliss, they encounter society's intolerance towards their interracial love affair.
