1st listen, really good vocal sound, good vocal tone natural, almost totally dry, takes a good vocalist to do that, like this lyric, bal and chains been one yesbut this still works, blue-eyed soul man, love it, you do all back vocs too, great sound, double-time snare feel very motown, nice feel here, horns authentic to style, 2nd listen... like the spoken vocal behind lead in 1st verse, lyric is very good, sliding up back vocs so very true to style, great stuff, ratings now... market pot down to 4 cuz style could really only sell in retro situation such as period movie, etc, so a limited market... do i want to hear more? take a guess, 5... lyric 5 cuz this lric stays true to style... hook quality 5 of course, we could hear that sung a thousand times... instr quality drop to 4 cuz it really needs another tight guitar rhythm added... voc pitch 5, a little off at spots but thats the style, pitch correct would ruin this style, so good, good grit in vocal too... record quality 5, a solid mix, true to retro sound, very dry... arrangement 5 also, true to style, just what would be expected arrangement wise, nothing detracts from style, no weird inserted sections, good... originality of song, drop to 4 cuz, lates face it, ball and chain has been done in many styles lyrically... so, overall, this song definitely rates a full 5 stars, everything about the track remains true to the RnB early 70s style, the lyric is very well done and sung as it should be, with a little grit and a whole lot of attitude, this track surely deserves a top ten spot, loved it, one of those songs you can hear over and over (that hook with be in my head for a few hours, maybe days)
Excellent song!! Format strong, vocals strong, mix strong!!
I like it.
