Secrets and Dreams

Story Behind The Song

I woke up at 3 AM one morning with the words, "Georgia and Caroline and a liter and a half of wine" running through my head. Those words wouldn't leave me alone until I got out of bed and wrote them down. The following day I sat down and wrote the song. I've been through heartache and disappointment and I found my way out of it with the help of my friends over a few glasses of wine.

Song Description

This song is about a guy who was heartbroken after a break up and just decided to party, party, party to forget his sorrows. However, he had two good friends who stuck by him during his trials. They helped him realize that he was heading for a dead end and slamming head on into walls trying to pretend he was something and someone he wasn't. While they listened intently, they all shared a liter and a half of wine on several occasions until he finally woke up and realized that he had to be strong. He had to let go of his secrets and live his dreams. He learned that it takes a broken heart sometimes and a brand new start to help you get your life back on track.

Secrets and Dreams
Words and Music by: Terri Marinaro (c) 2002

Time has a way of driftin? by and by,
The harder you look for what you want
The quicker it passes by.
I was a fool, I partied every night, I looked for things I could not find
Just couldn?t get it right

Prechorus:
Well, this ain?t easy for me, tellin? you my secrets and my dreams

Chorus:
It was Georgia and Caroline, and a liter and a half of wine
That helped me drown my sorrow on that barstool every night
But now I?ve done the time, and now I realize
That a broken heart and a brand new start
Can help you get it right.

Roads go ?round the bend and sometimes they dead end
I hit that wall a thousand times, jus? tryin? to pretend
Yes Lord, the road is long, but somehow I was strong
I landed on my feet and now I?m right where I belong.

Repeat Pre-Chorus, Repeat Chorus

Instrumental Break

Bridge:
Now I ain?t tryin? to tell you how
To live your life and live it now
But this ain?t easy for me
Spillin? out my secrets and my dreams

Repeat Chorus
