I travel on a long journey through several towns that claim to be welcoming, but only if I conform to their ideas.

Now I know I'm brand new in town

I'm a seeker who is traveling
Don't know much of anything
But I'm comfy with "ignorance is bliss"
I'm on a quest of mental health
Instructed to go find myself
Because I have a certain "Otherness"

I guess I'd been walking about 10 days
When up the road, through the haze
I saw a big gate with a little sign
Such bright colors everywhere
Like a rainbow mist in the air
"Everyone is welcome!" said the sign

But I was directed to a table
For screening to see if I was able
To fit in, then they handed me a pen
And a list of rules and an application
Which I filled out with resignation
And wrote in "other" on the line

But my other wasn't other enough
They got rude and really rough
Yelled at me that I was just pretending
I tried to explain, they wouldn't understand
And I'd lost the urge to lend a hand
So I packed up my guitar and hit the road.

Next three towns were more of the same
I wondered why I ever came
On this quest to become self aware
And now I've arrived here
And it's more of the same, I fear
And I see more things for which I do not care

Rainbows don't have jagged edges
And if you keep on buildin hedges
You'll lock yourselves up tighter than a drum
You say that you are so inclusive
As long as all are unobtrusive

I'm not saying you have to love me
Just don't put yourself above me
Your other is not my other, but that's okay
So what ya say we stop dividing
And forcing each other back into hiding
We can love each other and still disagree
