Story Behind The Song
Craig Haniff, the songwriter, wanted to write a song that would appear to be a typical love/heartbreak song but held a much deeper meaning far removed from the typical heartbreak story.
Song Description
Although the song sounds and reads like a typical song about a girl in a romantic relationship, at the core she's struggling with her faith and spiritual relationship with God.
The girl in the song struggles with her faith as a result of her life's tragic experiences. Part of the song, such as the verses and pre-choruses, reflect her everyday struggles and activities. The choruses reflect her not wanting to face the possibility of God's existence, and would rather just live each day at a time with a "whatever happens, happens" mentality. From the bridge onward speaks from God's perspective letting her know that He'll still be here whether she wants to believe it or not.

Lyrics
She said she wrote a song on a napkin
Lipstick lyrics never sound so good
She's misunderstood
She left a coffee stain on her mattress
Morning whispers never felt so nice
I think it's time we rolled the dice on
Summer nights, drunken fights
Under the lights outside
Midnight walks, pillow talks
It's not our fault but at least we can say we tried
Can we chase sunsets 'til this is over?
Woah oh oh oh
We'll stay forever where it goes down, down, down, down
They say that summer's only for lovers
Woah oh oh oh
Can we stay forever where it goes
Down, down, down, down, down
She wants to go back to the days where she's dreaming
The weather man's always right
There's rain in sight
She's got a coffee stain on her black dress
Her heart is just a forecast, storm in a glass
She's looking back to
Summer nights, drunken fights
She fell in love outside
Midnight walks, pillow talks
It's not our fault but at least we can say we tried
Tried
Can we chase sunsets 'til this is over?
Woah oh oh oh
We'll stay forever where it goes down, down, down, down
They say that summer's only for lovers
Woah oh oh oh
Can we stay forever where it goes
Down, down, down, down, down
Our luck ran out tonight
We'll be good for the next time
Don't turn out the lights
I'll be right here by your side
Don't turn out the lights
Our luck ran out tonight
I'll be by your side
Just don't turn out the lights
Will you be here when it's over?
If it goes down, down, down, down
Will we make it through the summer?
If it goes down, down, down, down
Are we friends or are we lovers?
If it goes down, down, down, down
Will you be here when it's over?
If it goes down, down, down, down
Don't turn out the lights
If it goes down, down, down, down
I'll be by your side
If it goes down, down, down, down
Our luck ran out tonight
If it goes down, down, down, down
Just don't turn out the lights
