Story Behind The Song
This is the most interesting story of any of my songs. "Angel Love" is about a woman named Angelo (whom I called Angel Love, sometimes). She was the girlfriend of my roommate at the time, and I worked with her at restaurant on Austin's famous 6th Street.
Anyway, Angelo (her real name was Angela) added an "o" to the end of her name to make it masculine. She liked guys and she was attractive, but she was also tough as all hell. She drank and fought like a sailor.
My roommage was kind of effeminate. So, they had a weird, sort of reversed relationship. She would get mad as hell at him. Once she even broke a window and tried to break down our front door.
Anyway, I felt inspired by the strangeness of it all.
Song Description
Angel Love is a fun, funky song about adrogyny. The horns and groove are a throw-back to New Orleans funk, especially The Meters.

Lyrics
Angel Love,
where would I be without you?
Angel Love,
maybe our love is destiny
If I was a woman and you were a man,
would we then be a perfect match?
C'mon and love me anyway.
Don't you know opposites attract?
If I were to carry on my back
the burdens and sins of every man,
could I be savior?
I'll suffer for your love
Maybe then you could love a man
With my arms untied,
my hands don't know what to do
If you'd only let me,
I know I could please you
Man or a woman,
my Angel Love
It's all in the bleeding and the crying
and the fighting that I crave
Nothing else could reveal the madness of our love
Man or woman, my Angel Love
With my arms untied,
my hands don't know what to do
If you'd only let me,
I know I could please you
Man or a woman,
my Angel Love
