Story Behind The Song
A very exciting club I played at and worked at in the late sixties.
Song Description
The Underground was a club without a cabaret license so only instrumentals could be performed on stage-no singing allowed. Some of the finest musicians of the era played forty minute sets-instrumental only-wowing crowds with their originality and musical prowess

Lyrics
Oh there was a time not long ago when I was seventeen
A time when all my friends and me were trying to make the scene
Oh we hung out on MacDougal St
Until the day we found
That beneath the steps we hung out on was a heaven underground.
Are you going, going, going to The Underground yeah yeah yeah
Are you going, going, going to The Underground yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh we went on down the stairs to see just what was happenin' And like a magnet pulling steel the music pulled us in
There were fifteen thousand on the street listenin' to the sound
Of the music playin' beneath their feet in a heaven underground.
Are you going, going, going to The Underground yeah yeah yeah
Are you going, going, going to The Underground yeah yeah yeah
Oh we rock and rolled all through the night
People happy as can be
there among one hundred friends hanging out for free
but now the club that I once loved is just a memeory
For where The Underground once stood, now stands The Olive Tree.
Are you going, going, going to The Underground yeah yeah yeah
Are you going, going, going to The Underground yeah yeah yeah
