River Of Pain (Country - Contemporary/Pop, Country - Classic)

Song Description

Pro Review by Larry Garrett, Independence, Missouri, US I like the descriptiveness of your lyrics. I can envision what you are describing. Lots of good images being drawn with the words. I like the way you blend the music. Flows very easily with the vocals. I simply like this kind of song. I listen to a lot of music that follows this path. I can imagine this song being on the radio, once it had some professional tweaking. Also, your vocals fit this song too. You convey the pain and concern. More Pro Reviews The playing all sounds very good. I like the chords used. The intonation and tone of the singing is also great. - Andrew Koenig Great guitar sound. Nice stereo separation. Lovely chord progression and changes at 0.40, 1.29 and 2.24. Excellent sound quality and mastering. Strong confident vocal - David James

Lyrics

RIVER OF PAIN
( STEVE DAFOE 2009)
(COPYRIGHTED)

CHORUS :

Fmaj7 C
I'M STANDING ON THE EDGE
ON THIS RIVER OF PAIN
IN THE SUNSHINE OR THE RAIN
ON MY OWN RIVER OF PAIN
LIVING ON THE EDGE
ON MY OWN RIVER OF PAIN

VERSE 1:

Am7 Dm7
SOMETIMES GENTLE BUT OFTEN VIOLENT
Am7 Cm7
THROUGH TO ITS MURKY DEPTHS
Am7 Dm7
THE BOTTOM NEVER TO BE SEEN
Am7 Dm7
NEVER TO BE TOUCHED THE BLACKNESS
Am7 Cm7
IT CAN ALL FLOAT BY OR CHURN HIGH

VERSE 2:

Am7 Dm7
THE SUN CAN SPARKLE GOLDEN ON TOP
Am7 Cm7
BUT THE CHILL OF ICE EXISTS BELOW
Am7 Dm7
WITH LIFE AND THINGS NOT SEEN
Am7 Dm7
THE WATER CAN IDLE BY ON A GOOD DAY
Am7 Cm7
OR ROIL FAST IN A BAD WAY.

VERSE 3:

Am7 Dm7
AND WHERE THE RIVER ALL GOES
Am7 Cm7
NO ONE REALLY DOES KNOW
Am7 Dm7
AS IT WEAVES THROUGH THE EARTH'S TERRAIN
Am7 Dm7
IT JUST MELTS WITH OTHER PAIN
Am7 Cm7
ROILING AND CHURNING AGAIN AND AGAIN

heartfelt emotion nice job

This is beautiful Steve!! Beautiful music, really creative and interesting lyrics, and one of the best vocals I have heard on Broadjam (or anywhere else for that matter)! I'm going to have to listen to more of your stuff! You sound a lot like David Gates, one of my faves! WONDERFUL!!

Emerson Lake and Palmer kinda vibe - Cool Etherial Lyrics - Sparse musically but easy to listen to!

Recorded very well. Nice articulation and vocal inflection.
Acoustic guitar supports in a superb way.
solid piece.

I thought I was listening to America. It has that feel sound wise and flow. Nice addition of the major 7ths. A very relaxing, easy listening tune. Nice job.

Wow, I didn't realize that Ryan Adams had a musical twin and he was here on Broadjam. This is a great song. The vocal timbre is just so nice....I wish I could sing like that! Just beautiful...I feel like you are lost in the song and the lyric and I enjoy listening to it so much. The melody is simple but the quickness with the words (consonants) tells me that you have sung and sung and sung. Great job and nice bridge. Everything flows so well. This song should do well for you in a setting that yearns for some heart break. The recording and master sounds like it was professionally completed. GREAT JOB!!!!

a nice laid back acoustic performance folk song. really great sound quality crystal clear production. nice ease to the melody and style that flows along like a river in its stripped back arrangement.

Love the lyrics! The chord progression was very nice, remind me a little of James Taylor

Vocals very clear and that to my ears is a good thing. Sad song but then a lot of life can be sad and that can make for the best songs...good luck with this

like the guitar entry allot. vocal is solid, a tad like a young willie nelson. interesting chord structure.

i can identify with the angst-ridden lyrics and vibe of this song. well done, indeed! an expression of a universal human condition.
