Lyrics
Karaoke Nights
Stopped at Diamond Deb's one night, lookin' for somethin new to do.
Pearly balls were rackin' and the club was crackin' to a karaoke crew.
My heart was drawn to a pair of eyes of an angel with blonde hair.
I don't know where she came from, but I was glad to see her there.
She walked up to the stage to better get this party started,
while desperados turned the page, lookin' for songs for the broken-hearted.
She sang her heart so sweet and true and just the right amount off key.
I don't remember what she sang, but she sang it straight to me.
CHORUS 1
My first karaoke night, it felt so sweet and right.
I fell in love with a karaoke queen I could have listened to all night.
I grabbed a book and took a look for a song to reach her heart,
to hold this candle in the wind so she could light our way in the dark.
END OF CHORUS 1
I sang of seeking shelter against the wind, & stayin' forever young;
of rainy day women and piano man, and bein' born to run.
She sang of carnivals and love shacks and fever when you hold her tight,
of killing softly with a song, and a poetry man makin' things alright.
We didn't have to sing I got you babe as nights turned into days.
We drank beer and lime and never-minded tryin' to change our evil ways.
I wrote her secret songs when the words were wrong in the ones the jock was spinnin'.
We talked of free-fallin' to margaritaville, a muse and her musician.
CHORUS 2
Another karaoke night with the children of the night.
Another chance to leave our worlds behind and sing our hearts out right.
Another stage to bare our hearts and souls to a lover and a friend,
to be a star right where we are with our choice of backup band.
END OF CHORUS 2
When you love a karaoke queen, you never lose, you never win.
You learn the power of good-bye and that it's all dust in the wind.
I started losin' my religion when a new one brought her to her knees.
I could've checked out anytime I liked, but I could never leave.
She sang remember I told you I love you baby, I will always love you
but I might not be back this way again maybe, these words are true.
I sang I can't make you love me if you don't, or if you do.
Our candle may burn out, but our legend never will. I will always love you too.
CHORUS 3
Another karaoke night, a solitary man sings one for you.
It's hard to sing your song when the thrill is gone, but I can sing a song sung blue.
This rider on the storm loved you when you were walkin' out the door.
Love & candy will never be the same to this achin' breakin' heart no more.
END OF CHORUS 3
Yeah, my muse karaoke queen has gone back where she came from.
Don't know exactly where that is, but when she called she said she's home.
She still stirs my singin' heart, she has a soul for inspiration.
Guess I'll have to put some 45s out so she can hear 'em on her local radio station.
When I become a star and break into the karaoke tour,
I know she'll tip one back in a neighborhood bar and find someone to sing 'em to her.
She'll always be a muse & star, no matter where she makes her home,
and I'll be a star-struck musician, everywhere I roam.
CHORUS 4
No more karaoke nights for this child of the light.
Gonna get my act together, sing my own songs, do it right.
No more coverin' my heart with words that never quite ring true,
gonns sing my heart out to the world, songs of love from me to you.
for you karaoke nights with the children of the night.
Another chance to leave your world behind and sing your heart out right.
Another chance to bare your heart & soul to a lover and a friend,
to be a star right where you are with your choice of backup band.
END OF CHORUS 4
