Hate´s the only sin

Story Behind The Song

Written in response to the backlash against gay marriage rights. Because equal rights are not a single subject topic, the song begins with racism, and traces the history of the Equal Rights movement from 1963 when much of America began to truly side with equality, through to the passing of the Marriage Equality Law.

Song Description

Written in response to the backlash against gay marriage rights. Because equal rights are not a single subject topic, the song begins with racism, and traces the history of the Equal Rights movement from 1963 when much of America began to truly side with equality, through to the passing of the Marriage Equality Law. In V3, we come to the present with political turmoil, and anti-everything. The terrorists referred to "want to roll back human rights", a phrase that fits many of today's Americans, as well as foreign terrorist groups like ISIL and Bocul Haram. In context, it is clear that these particular terrorists are not only domestic, but politicians elected to enforce a platform of exclusion. There is the original long version at 3:42, and a radio edit that cuts the length to 3,04 minutes.

Lyrics

Hate´s the only sin

Now you've found out that your old friend
married someone with the wrong skin
and he told you're another racist tool
You say your hometown looks the same
but the people went and changed
you're still clinging to the old ways like a mule
Well you ought not celebrate
what is tangled up in hate
but you say it's just good heritage to you
Now you've found out that your old friend
married someone with the wrong skin

Way back in sixty-three
we dreamed the world would be
a better place to raise our children in
You know we talked of love
and the spirit from above
we were stardust and we thought that we could win
By the end of sixty-eight
we were stunned by all the hate
and the shadows started rolling in again
Way back in sixty-three
we dreamed the world would be

Water turns to rainbow when the lightning hits the sea
and the wise change their opinions when their spirits become free
Open up your soul and let the sun come pouring in
When your heart is filled love you know that hate's the only sin.

Now the politics are whacked
and the country's been hi-jacked
and the terrorists are every shape and size
They want to turn out all the lights
and roll back human rights
how they agitate for liberty's demise
Whatever your persuasion
it don't fit in their equation
so they cut you down with sharpened blades and lies
Now the politics are whacked
and the country's been hi-jacked

Water turns to rainbow when the lightning hits the sea
and the wise change their opinions when their spirits become free
Open up your soul and let the sun come pouring in
When your heart is filled love you know that hate's the only sin.

Way back in sixty-three
we dreamed the world would be
a better place to raise our children in
By the end of sixty-eight
we were stunned by all the hate
and the shadows started rolling in again
The people were so shaken
nearly 50 years it's taken
for equal rights to gain a single win
Way back in sixty-three
we dreamed the world would be

Water turns to rainbow when the lightning hits the sea
and the wise change their opinions when their spirits become free
Open up your heart and see there is no need to doubt
hate's the only sin, but love can work it out
