The Keeper

Story Behind The Song

The realization came that I was waiting for someone to come and make it all "happen" - write the song, play the gig, make my relationship better - and I was struck by the fantasy of that.

Song Description

Upbeat piano/guitar based song with female vocals singing about the manner in which we find ourselves - through failure and triumph, through relationship and solititude - and that fine line that we walk between them all. It's about the discovery of self-empowerment by realizing that nobody else can make your life happen - yet those valued few are to be loved and respected.

Lyrics

I am the messenger
furnishing
a specific code
that only I can crack
I am the dreamer
recording all
of the yearning
and emotion

I have keys and I have moods
which open and reframe
remind and resist
recover and rename
reload and fire
again and again

I am the only master of this
domain
So you can see
it's really quite clear
there's simply no use -
No use for blame

I keep the music playing
and I keep relighting the flame
I keep the music playing
'Cause nobody will do it for me

I am just learning
how to be in a room with someone else
and still be myself
I am beginning
to understand the spaciousness
that lives in togetherness

You have yours and I have mine
and together, we align
into harmony and out to dissonance
and back in the flow
over and over

Now, you are the one
who helps me remember
I can't do it all alone
Time after time
I need the reminder
to shutup and listen
so I won't be thrown

I keep the music playing
and I keep relighting the flame
I keep the music playing
'Cause nobody will do it for me...
