Story Behind The Song
Sean Rasul was inspired to write the song following the numerous unjustified killings of Black Americans. The song was released shortly after the killing of Roger Fortson, a Black American Airman.
Song Description
Refuse to Lose is the fifth single from independent hip-hop artist, Sean Rasul. The release highlights the hardships Black Americans continue to experience and encourages people to persist in the fight for freedom, justice, and equality.
The song is reminiscent of the 1960's civil rights era where the messages during that time are still very relevant today. The classic jazz inspired piano and drums provide the landscape for Rasul's inspirational lyrics which serve to help others navigate the road to true freedom. Rasul urges listeners to "Stay strong until we're free!"
The piano play mellows out during the release's extended version as Rasul reminds listeners, "Our lives matter." He goes on to detail what he feels is needed and must be done in order to achieve the greatness each human has a fundamental right to seek.
Refuse to Lose is the native Chicagoan's first release since 2013. His previous releases all contain messages intended to inspire, invoke thought, and bring about positive change. This new single is par for the course.

Lyrics
We've got so much trouble on our minds
But we refuse to lose
Uncontrollable
They can't control what they can't understand
But we can do what we feel
That's for real
It's time to seize the day
Do it for Sandra, Breonna, and Freddie Gray
And so many others
We refuse to lose
Cause there's too many of us
Brothers and sisters
We are who we were created to be
Be real
Be you
Be free
Unapologetically
Refuse to lose
We're gonna have to fight
Gonna have to struggle
We're gonna have to fight
Gonna have to struggle
We're gonna have to fight
Gonna have to struggle
We're gonna have to fight
Gonna have to struggle
Freedom
Justice
Equality
Keep on
Keep on
Stay strong
Stay strong
Until we're free
