Story Behind The Song
Written about wanting to get away from the urban jungle of which I was living in the late 70's and early 80's (in Asbury Park, NJ) and going to a real jungle for some fun.
Song Description
The jungle doesn't have to be scary. It can almost be an innocent adventure filled with fantasy. This is an amusing tale really capturing the desire to leave civilization for some fun. This would make a great children's video or promotional song for zo

Goin' on safari, I wanna go out in the jungle and meet all the animules,
Goin' on safari, I wanna find a diamond mine in Africa, I wanna dig for jewels,
Goin' on safari, I wanna bag the biggest, meanest lion you ever saw,
Goin' on safari, I wanna bring him home and hang him on my wall.
Goin' on safari, I wanna be called "Bwana", I want a guide to carry my gun,
Goin' on safari, I wanna catch a black mamba and get a tan in the African sun,
Goin' on safari, I wanna grab me a vine and swing like the ape man do,
Goin' on safari, I wanna ride me an elephant, too.
(bridge)
I?m flying over the seas to hunt a rhino,
I'm gonna capture me a leopard or a cheetah.
(How long will you be gone?), Hell if I know.
I'm gonna make Jane wanna leave Tarzan when I meet her.
Goin' on safari, gonna be a big-gee with the pygmies when I show 'em I can hunt with style.
Goin' on safari, gonna do a fancy Zulu dance and wrestle with a Nile crocodile.
Goin' on safari, The antelope are gonna boogie, but I know I'm gonna run 'em down.
Goin' on safari, I've gotta get out of this crazy town.
Goin' on safari, I've gotta get out of this crazy town.
Goin' on safari, I've gotta get out of this crazy town.
