Ghost Town Girl

Story Behind The Song

I was touring Alaska. The geography and real estate were simultaniously beautiful and depressing, due to the economy. I saw a woman sitting in a beauty parlor. She herself was not so beautiful, nor was she happy. Just a shell of a gal. Empty, used, finished. At one time she might have been the "town girl"....everyone had her, no one kept her. She was now a ghost...of that town girl. This town had become a ghost town, and it had it's very own ghost...town girl.

Song Description

Some girls can dream and wish their lives away. When the fairy tale doesn't come true, we hit that moment when we sign off, completely shutting down. We become ghosts of our vivid selves. This young lady, gave up, caved in, moved on, without ever going anywhere at all.

Lyrics

GHOST TOWN GIRL c. 1993 Sally Fingerett Green Fingers Music BMI

She?s walking up and down the street
Been around a time or two
There?s no one that she?d like to meet
She enjoys the quiet.
She?s a ghost town girl,
living in a ghost town that girl.

Leaning on the bakery wall
Tattered awnings frayed
Colors that are almost gone
Life can sometimes fade that way
Ghost town girl,
you?re living in a ghost town, hey girl

Living half dead in a half dead town
Makes sense to her
When you?re half mad it's a half mad world
So you might as well live here....in a ghost town.

Folks wonder why she just don?t leave
Why don?t she get up and go
The way she walks the streets at night
Kinda? spooky don?t ya know
She?s a ghost......town girl,
living in a ghost town, that girl

There?s no one left to make her happy here
That handsome one, he?s gone
It?s not as though she walks the street in fear
There?s no one left to do her wrong.?
In a ghost town. In a ghost town. In a ghost town, In a ghost town
Living half dead in a half dead town
Makes sense to her
When you?re half mad, it?s a half mad world
So you might as well settle down....in a ghost town.
