Story Behind The Song
After 9/11 and some of the other terrorist attacks here and abroad, I decided to write an unabashedly patriotic song about someone singing the praises of the freedoms we're allowed in this country and to praise the soldiers who fight and die for it. We still have a lot to be thankful for in America.
Song Description
A song I wrote for a musical play I was writing about the war in Afghanistan. This is sung by a hardcore patriotic soldier who's come back and appreciates what he was fighting for.

Lyrics
In my country, our forefathers laid down some ground rules
Though 200 years have gone by, we live by those same rules today
But not every country is blessed with our constitution
And to those who tear down our flag, I got something to say...(check it out)
In my country, we vote on who gets to have power
Here it's not based upon how many men you can kill
And in my country, women are treated as equals
And we don't teach our children to hate,
and then pass it off as God's will
In my country, my country
I'm proud to be part of my country
My country, my country
I won't turn my back on my country
In my country, freedom is something we'll fight for
And when we engage in war, our troops in the field make us proud
And we honor our soldiers, for they fight and they die like true heroes
No, they don't strap a bomb to their chest, and blow themselves up in a crowd
In my country, my country
I'm proud to be part of my country
My country, my country
I won't turn my back on my country (no way!)
(Listen up) I'm not trying to tell you what you ought to do
But if you lived in my country, you might feel the same way, too
The point I'm trying to make here is that the choice is up to you
While in your country that may not be true,
But in my country, that's just what we do
(Looky here ) In my country, we're taught that life has a value
To throw it away, I know, is truly the worst kind of sin
So let's stop the fighting, for life was meant for the living
And if there's no heaven above, I know the next best thing...(right here!)
My country, my country
I love my country (don't you?)
My country, my country
I'll stand by my country (won't you?)
My country, YOUR country
God bless our country
My country, OUR country
Believe in your country!
